Dundee fans left Dens this afternoon with mixed feelings; disappointed that the Dee missed an opportunity to put an SPL club out of the cup, but pleased with a good performance and knowing that Dundee are still in contention for a place in the next round.
For a welcome change Dundee won a home game comfortably in beating Livingston 3-0 this afternoon. Goals from Ryan Conroy, Neil McGregor and Nicky Riley ensured that the later stages of the game were pleasantly lacking in tension as Dundee stroked the ball around while the crowd chanted “olé”,
The score may suggest that Dundee dropped two points against Partick Thistle when they drew 0-0 at Firhill this afternoon, but it has to be regarded as a hard won point. The Dark Blues had to cope with very difficult conditions and needed Rab Douglas to be at his best to deny a tenacious, hard working home side who would have had all three points with a bit more luck.
The muted reaction to the final whistle at the end of Dundee's frantic 2-2 draw with Hamilton at Dens suggested that neither set of supporters were happy with a point. There may have been no shortage of excitement or talking points as play swung from end to end with both teams looking for a winner, but there was a disappointing lack of quality.
Dundee might have dropped two points in a poor game in Dumfries today, but a single point was more than the Dee deserved from a thoroughly unimpressive performance. A lively Queen of the South side handled the awful pitch far better than Dundee, and would have taken a deserved win but for a cracking goal from Matt Lockwood after 88 minutes.
New loan signing Carl Finnigan dealt the Bairns the traditional curse of the returning striker by scoring in the 87th minute to give Dundee a point they fully deserved in tonight's entertaining draw at the Falkirk Stadium. Dundee were the better side for large parts of the game, but their inability to take their chances meant that they looked like losing to Farid El Alagui's first half goal.
Dundee's faint hopes of promotion took another blow today when they couldn't get the win they needed to close the gap on Ross County. Five consecutive draws for the Dee mean that the title race looks increasingly like a contest between County and Falkirk, with today's visitors the strong favourites after extending their unbeaten run to 20 league games.
Dundee ended their run of five draws by beating Livingston 3-2 at Almondvale this afternoon. The Dark Blues made heavy, heavy work of the win in an entertaining match that had plenty of twists before Jamie McCluskey's 88th minute winner.
