What Happened At 2nd Goal

Rate this topic

Holt ended up at right back for some reason and failed to make the necessary foul, just like he failed to stop Hayes on Saturday, to stop a 3 on 2 attack.

Konrad could have also fouled Cardle in the build up.

Naivety not usually seen past under 12s.

Think McPake was playing centre forward by that time. Ok he scored the equaliser in the Derby, but this can not be a tactic every week, we look more likely to lose a goal at the back than scoring as has happened in the last 2 games.

Said on Saturday Holt should be rested for Irvine. The lad looks promising but he has stepped up a level and is struggling defensively. When players can get their place every week despite performance, that leads to trouble

We were well on top 2nd half and missed several chances. They were struggling with fitness and time wasting. With 5 minutes to go we should have sat in and accepted extra time. Stupidly he puts McPake up front and relies on Konrad to marshal the defense !! Unbelievably naive and costbus the match.

That's exactly how I saw it too, we would have taken them in extra time but we panicked and tried to force it leaving ourselves short at the back

Three centre-backs at 0-0 and one centre-back at 1-1. Unbelievable.

On the other hand, if we'd won, he'd have seen his 3 CH's as a supreme masterstroke. Maybe on Saturday he'll revert back to what we're good at with a back 4. McGinn and Holt have been playing as defenders for probably 7 or 8 years and now PH sees them as the main attacking source of an SPL team.

Mcpake wasnt thrown up front until they scored there 2nd.....

Think they broke from a set piece where mcpake was sent up for...

If we'd won that it would have been an expected victory over a side 2 leagues below us despite the manager picking the wrong formation.

As it stands, it an absolutely catastrophic blunder by Hartley.

You certainly like a bit of drama blythswood. F3ck me we're oot a cup early, it's not going to drastically alter our approach to how we go about this season.

Some people have got to understand what happened last night wont change greatly how we go forward as a club. It was an upset that's it.

Wasn't the first upset we've endured and probably wont be the last.

Likewise I think you're underplaying it.

Things that have been threatening caught up Hartley last night.

I'll be interested to see how he reacts to it, but we can't just gloss over what happened last night. It was a catastrophic blunder.

Do you not think it will alter the approach of some fans though?

Cups are important to keep people interested and enthusiastic re going to the games.

A win on Saturday dosenae alter or make up for last night.

What was a catastrophic blunder - the fact we created loads of chances but couldn't put any in the back of the net?

Administrations and relegations are catastrophic, being knocked out of the cup early isn't.

Our fans were tipping us for top 3 around a month ago.

I cant mind o mcpake going up till after 2nd goal.

He might not have been up front full time at 1-1 but he was certainly lingering at set pieces rather than rushing back.

Hindsight being what it is we maybe should have waited for extra time but I was willing Dundee forward like everybody else.

I wouldn't say loads, we created some. Two or three good ones. Rest easy for their keeper.

Catastrophic blunder was turning a game against lower league opposition into a nightmare for his own players by playing a formation that they struggled badly with first half, them compounding that by doing exactly the same second half and getting picked off twice.

Or are you saying he got it right?

The guys on here who like a moan wont alter their approach too much.

We could win 5-0 on Sat but get slated because there was nae pies left at h/t. Some of the stuff is just ridiculous.

We had 18 attempts on goal.

5 at the back, although not my preferred formation, wasn't the reason we lost last night.
