Injuries

All teams suffer from injuries, some more than most, Dundee being one of them. Once a player becomes injured there are very few updates from the club as to the initial extent of the injury and ongoing through the timescale to being available again. At present we have Julen and Loy out with no indication of for how long. Konrad went off on Saturday and Carreiro was carried off in the Dev. Squad game last night. Then there is our captain who seems to be a consistent doubt game on game. This has a major bearing on our ability to perform but us as the paying customers are left in the dark. We should be given more information as it is one of the major ongoing talking points with supporters. Most supporters will turn up to see an injury depleted side, or will they ? Should they be given the information before turning up to pay their money.

In american sports especially american football the injured roster is always available on the clubs website and through the media. This is not just a simple "out with a leg injury" sort of info but details of the specific injury, expected time of recovery and for those nearing a return a report in the days running up to the game on each injured player along the lines of out for saturday, possible, probable or definitely recovered and available to play. I feel this enhances the connection between club and fans by making them aware of an important part of football. The downside, I suppose, is that opposition clubs can plan their team in the knowledge of who they will be facing but imo this would be of limited effect.

Keep us informed, we want to know.

P.S.

We also want to know how/why so many of our players get injured in the first place. That, of course, is a different question altogether !!

Not wishing to come over as negative ..... as in many of my posts I do seem to raise the subject of lack of communication between Club and Fans.

Maybe lack of communication is the wrong phrasing, but I do feel there is room for further improvement.

Troodee's point above is reasonable, and one area, I think should be addressed.

It might be argued that this would give other teams some "inside info" I do not think this is a real issue.

On the last point in the OP, we do seem to get more than our fair share of players injuries. If this is the case, has anyone any idea, why this is ?

Robbie Nielsen stated after the Hearts game that he set up his team in a specific way for the game at Dens, as he expected Loy to be playing up front in a three for us.

He then admitted that he got it wrong and reorganised his team's shape and personal based on how we were actually set up.

Had we taken our chances first half that game, we'd have been out of sight and sure fire winners.

Why should we have given the opposition that "head's up" prior to kick off, purely so the fans can feel they "know more" about players, the squad and the injury situation. In the long run, other than posting it on here, or blethering with mates, what difference does it make? We can't influence who's fit and who's not.

As for the injury issues, well a mixture, you'd guess, of players with a history of injuries, training routines and bad luck. Hopefully that luck changes, but that won't stop us missing certain players for certain games and especially on certain surfaces.

Agree with this, not something I need to know.

Most managers don't hand team lines till last min so there must be reasons.

On a side note, dfc has a leaky dressing room cause I think 4 or 5 times on here and mad the team has been posted on Fri or sat morning.

I want to know whether our players are fit before a game but given our endless injury problems it probably makes sense to keep the opposition manager guessing along with the rest of us.

Reason for the number of injuries is a concern.

Would hazard a guess that it is a combination of what we can afford have a history of injuries (KT for example), those stepping up from lower leagues to top flight find it hard going in training to start with given the higher intensity (Loy?) and just downright unlucky.

Not having a physio at present probably doesn't help either.

Could do with the US input here as I'm sure Houston Dynamo are streets ahead of us on fitness/sports related injuries.

Dundee train pretty much in full view of the public. If your in that neck of the woods, it's fairly easy to see who's being taken aside in training prior to the game at the weekend.

Team for the weekend v the rest - from about Wednesday onwards.

It's usually not too far off :)

Very good point 1Stevie, 'what we can afford'. With players like McPake and KT, Hartley is taking a calculated risk, some work out better than others also in agreement with some of the lads stepping up a level. Weekly player updates are not sensible either, why give opposition managers a week or half a week to prepare thoroughly to play us??

How come we are all so crap at guessing what team PH is going to put out then? :happyno:

I would imagine PH is playing mind games with the Premier League spies who no doubt watch these sessions.  :slaphead:

Getting back to injuries - I'm assuming that after this extended break our only fitness doubts should be Julen, Konrad and Carriero?  Sound reasonable?

Hope so mate..

Julen's injury was pretty clearly a hamstring - could be 3 weeks, could be 6 weeks.

Loy's injury was groin strain / tear I think.. He's not played since the Derby on 11th August so you'd hope he's be back fully fit for Thistle on 12th September.

Konrad - not a clue. Never heard anything since he was taken off.. Likewise with Carreiro..

Konrad's looked a sore one - his thigh I think so I'm not expecting him to be available.  Likewise, I would expect Julen to be out for another couple of weeks at least.  If that is the case then it is a chance for Meggat or more likely Ghadz to show us what they have got.  Having Loy back, along with Harkins and I would be feeling pretty confident about going to Firhill and getting a good result.

One things certain - I don't think there's much chance of us starting with three CB's in the match.

Huge difference between wanting to know and needing to know.

We want to know but certainly don't need to know.

I remember games where we've been missing 7 or 8 players so it could be worse. I saw julen walking into town today and he looked fine although obviously it doesn't mean he's fit to play.

If he wasn't limping or hobbling that's a big plus point as far as I am concerned.

Think I read Konrad was a dead leg so he should have recovered in a few days, however, I could have just made that up!

Defo mate. I think he could be an excellent player for us in time.
