The Manager Neil McCann didn't mince his words in his post match interview and stated that he wasn't happy about the fact that we squandered many chances which would have put us in a commanding lead in the first 15 minutes of yesterdays game.
Dundee made two changes from the side that beat Dundee United in the Betfred Cup during the week. Roarie Deacon who picked up a knock against the Arabs in the cup was replaced by Randy Wolters, and Kerr Waddell made way for Dundee Skipper Darren O'Dea.
The Dark Blues made the better start of the two teams, with plenty of chances and were soon made to rue the missed opportunities including a missed penalty by Scott Allan in the second half.
Hamilton were the first to have a chance of opening a lead in the first few minutes of the game. A Ioannis Skondras cross was headed on to Boyd who found himself shooting over the bar a few yards from the Dundee Goal.
At the other side, a mistake by Accies defender Georgios Sarris provided Scott Allan the prefect opportunity with a one on one with Hamilton Keeper Woods, but the midfielder elected to pass the ball off to a team mate rather than take the shot himself.
A few moments later, El Bakhtaoui had three chances one after the other to put the Dark Blues ahead. A long ball by Cammy Kerr into the box found the striker unmarked, his first shot was parred away by Woods, his second shot hit the upright and the third one was wild over the bar and the ball ended up into by then frustrated away Dundee support.
The Dark Blues should have been at least two goals up if it were not for lacking in the final third of the pitch and on any other day, these chances would have been buried into the oppositions net, but however, it wasn't to be.
Hamilton were awarded a free-kick just out side the Dundee box, the Crawford free kick was easily held by Scott Bain.
Hamilton found themselves ahead against the run of the play. A Crawford corner was not dealt with by the Dundee defence and the balled ended up at the foot of McKinnon at the edge of the Dee box and he drove the ball into the right hand side of Bain bottom corner.
On the half hour mark, Dundee were forced to make a change, winger Wolters hobbled off and was replaced by former ICT man Danny Williams. William moved to the left and Scott Allan moved over into the right.
No sooner had the winger been on the pitch, he was gifted a chance when he managed to get himself behind Sarris, but his tame shot hit the legs of Keeper Woods and the ball turned away.
Rakish Bingham nearly made it two with an unsuccessful overhead kick, but the home team didn't have to wait long after to make it 2-0 on the thirty-six minute mark. Scott Boyd found himself in a lot of space due to some slack defending by the Dundee Defence and latched on to a McKinnon pass which he lobbed over a helpless Scott Bain who was well off his line.
The Dark Blues again pressed for that elusive goal. The Hamilton defence gifted a chance to Marcus Haber in the box, but was unable to get a pass off to Scott Allan. In injury time, Hendry managed to get off a powerful header from a corner, but it was straight into the arms of Hamilton Keeper Woods.
To add further misery to the Dens park Outfit, Darren O'Dea required lengthy treat just before half time and was substituted by Kerr Waddell just seven minutes into the second half.
In the second half Dundee kept up the pressure by pushing Williams and El Bakhtaoui further forward, spraying long balls into a shaky Hamilton defence in the hope of catching Hamilton off guard. Dundee had a twenty minute prolonged spell of attacking the Hamilton goal, but could not get the ball past Woods.
Williams got the better of Sallis and only had the keeper to beat, but Woos managed to get a touch of the ball and round the post for a corner. Moments later Woods was called into action again when he had to do well to keep a Scott Allan effort out of the back of the net.
The Dark Blues were awarded a penalty on the 78th minuted, Allan found Williams in space but before he could shoot he was taken down by Ioannis Skondras. This was the perfect opportunity for Dundee to pull a goal back and maybe push to take a point from the game, however, Scott Allan blasted the ball several feet over the bar to the dismay of the away support.
Minutes later, The Dark Blues passed another two chances. A Scott Allan pass found El Bakhtaoui clear onto goal, but his first touch let him down and Woods managed to block his shot. Williams set up an easy shot for Marcus Haber just six yards out, but Haber's shot was straight at Woods.
To further compound the Dee Misery, The Accies won a penalty when Kevin Holt fouled Templeton and the ref had no choice but to award the spot kick. Imrie made no mistake with his spot kick and blasted the ball high into the net past Scott Bain.
Dundee can have no complaints regarding the result today. Some rather lax defending which led to two of the Hamilton goals, followed by many chances wasted which could have seen Dundee well into the lead in the first fifteen minutes easily. To create so many chances and not take them could be considered criminal and we only have ourselves to blame for the defeat at New Douglas Park.
