Fir Park has been the home to Motherwell for over 100 years since 1895.

Despite having a capacity of 13,750, the stadium was once able to boast of filling the ground with 35,000 spectators in the 1930s.

The main stand at Fir Park was constructed in 1962 for a sum of £92,000 but due to a complaint from a house owner, it stopped the club from completing a full-length stand. The reason for the complaint was that it would restrict light getting into their garden thus lowering the value of the house!

The East Stand was converted to all-seating in 1991, a new two-tier South stand was built in 1993 and two-years later, the North stand was opened and that finished the stadium which you see in its present format.

It seems I speak to the guys at MFC Podcast  more than I do my own wife nowadays so it would be rude to find someone new to speak to about Motherwell.
Motherwell will have to do with finishing in the bottom six this season and will no doubt battle it out with St Johnstone for 7th place. The club will better last years finish of 9th and also have already accumulated more points than last season. A welcome end to the season with no play-off worries?
Absolutely, I think the main goal at the start of the season was to avoid any drama at the wrong end of the table and I think we’ve been fairly comfortable in doing so.
We can forget the fact that you have reached not only one national cup final but your now way to feature in two in one season. That’s a massive achievement for the club and it hasn’t been done since 1951. How surreal has this been and what’s the atmosphere like around the fans because of this?
It’s been incredible and the buzz around the place is great. Strangely it comes on the back of years of terrible form in the cups too, we’ve had two amazing semi-finals at Hampden and one final where we gave a very good account of ourselves. I reckon it’s important to stress too that there’s been a lot of work behind the scenes and by the players and staff to bring everyone together, the football club as a whole is in a very positive place.
I know us Dundee fans will like to think this but do you think there is a chance the players will have one eye on the final and start to play it safe so to say as in not wanting to get injured?
Absolutely not, this team don’t seem to have an off switch, they play and train with a real intensity. I think everyone in our team is now using the remaining games as a chance to prove they are worthy of a place in the starting-eleven on May 19.
Speaking but injuries, I read somewhere the Steelmen could have potentially up to eight people out. Who are they and who are likely to make it against Dundee?
We have long term injuries to Peter Hartley, Ellis Plummer and Craig Tanner (which I’m sure is welcome news). Andy Rose and George Newell are both out tomorrow too. I think that’s the guys who will certainly miss out, Curtis Main had a suspected fractured wrist but it thankfully wasn’t as bad as feared. Finally there’s Carl McHugh and Nadir Ciftci, the former who should be fine for tomorrow and Nadir is back in training.
Looking ahead to your final. You have won this competition twice, with both triumphs coming against ourselves and Dundee United. Celtic aren’t the invincible force they were last season. Does this give you the belief that you can your name for the third time to this prestige cup?
I hope so! It would be crazy to reach a final beating nothing but top flight teams along the way and not thinking you have a chance. Celtic are a fantastic side and there’s no getting away from that, but we’ve given them some real challenges this season, we need to have a great day and hope they are off it a bit, if that happens then who knows? I’m getting excited just talking about it - 22 days to go!
You’ve yet to lose against us this season and have only conceded on goal along the way. How would you rate the games against us this year? The last one was especially frustrating for Dundee fans to watch.
The last game was horrendous! I didn’t think despite being on the back foot though that Dundee really offered much of a threat, I felt you were far better in the game at Fir Park before Christmas. We’ve shown we are good when it comes to grinding out a win and we’ve had to do that in the league wins at Dens, I hope with a little less pressure tomorrow we’ll play with some freedom and the game will be a bit easier on the eye.
Our record at Fir Park is surprisingly good though with only two defeats in the last ten. Dundee desperately need the points if they want to cement their place in next seasons Premiership ahead of Hamilton, Thistle and County. Motherwell players will also be playing for starting places for the Scottish up Final. What type of match will we see and what’s your prediction?
Hopefully a decent one! I’m going to go for a 2-2 draw.
