After surviving most of the summer without any teams showing an interest in defender Steven Caulker, The Guardian have tonight reported that Spanish La Liga outfit Celta Vigo and numerous unnamed English Championship sides are casting their eyes on the Englishman.
Following the loss of Jack Hendry to Celtic in January, Neil McCann swooped to bring in the one-time England cap in a surprise free transfer following his release from Queens Park Rangers. Though he was lacking match fitness, the big centre back’s experience was vital in Dundee staying in the Premiership last season.
Dundee have already knocked back a massive offer of around £2 million from Rosenburg for the defender's service back in April but that was mainly due to our precarious league position at the time.
If there is anything in these rumours and Dundee are to be involved in another big money transfer following on from the reported £1.5 million received from the sale of Hendry, then it would represent a fantastic bit of business by the club considering Caulker has only played twelve times for the Dee and has one-year left on his contract.
Of course, Dundee fans would have to see any potential transfer fee invested back into the first team, especially to replace a key figure like Caulker.
