After seeing young defender Kerr Waddell net his first senior goals of his career, Paul McGowan is predicting big things for the 19-year-old youth product.

“Kerr is terrific. Any ball in the air he just goes for it and eats it up,” praised McGowan.

“For a young kid that’s a fantastic attribute.

“If he can keep going like this he’s going to have a bright future at Dundee.

“It’s massive to have a threat like that at set-pieces.

“He’s still learning and will make mistakes but I’ll take him in my team all day long.

Waddell has come from nowhere this summer to establishing his place in the first team squad. The young centre back has already made thirteen appearances for Dundee so far this term with plenty more to come from the promising defender.

“If the young lads are good enough then play them.” Said McGowan

“You only get experience by playing. Kerr, Cammy Kerr and Lewis Spence will only get better.

“I can understand why people say you need know-how in this league because it is tough but the young players here are certainly up for the battle.”

“I wasn’t even meant to take the corner. It was the gaffer who said. I can’t remember the last time I took one.

“I’ve put it on Kerr’s head and he’s done the hard part by putting it in the back of the net.”

“If he can keep going like this he’s going to have a bright future at Dundee.
