  6. A Rory Loy double, one from the penalty spot, gave the visitors a two-goal cushion at the break. Paul McGowan added a third just after the hour mark before County substitute Craig Curran netted what proved to be a consolation five minutes later. The first real effort on goal came in the ninth minute when good work down the left by James McEveley set up Brian Graham but the forward failed to get his shot away first time and the ball was cleared. The opener came at the other end when Mark O'Hara got to the byline and his cut back was swept into the net at the near post by Loy. County had claims for a penalty turned down a minute later when Alex Schalk went down in the box under pressure from Darren O'Dea but referee Bobby Madden saw nothing amiss Graham then fired one over the crossbar from 15 yards after he connected with a McEveley delivery. Ian McShane replaced the injured Martin Woods in the 26th minute and with his first touch he fired over after being set up by Schalk. Liam Boyce let fly a minute later but his shot was also too high. Dundee continued to look a threat going forward and Loy was not far away to doubling his side's lead in the 34th minute with a low drive which flew just past Scott Fox's right-hand post. The visitors were awarded a rather soft penalty in the 41st minute when O'Hara appeared to be pushed by McEveley from Michael Duffy's corner. Loy drove the spot kick right down the middle as Fox dived to his right. It was all County from the start of the second half but Dundee soaked up the pressure and countered to devastating effect in the 62nd minute. Duffy latched on to a through ball from Loy and he squared it for McGowan to drill the ball under Fox and into the net. It looked all over but County almost pulled one back when Gardyne forced a fine save from Dundee keeper Scott Bain. From the resultant 67th-minute corner Boyce's shot got the slightest of touches from Curran on its way into the bottom corner. But there was to be no dramatic comeback as Dundee saw out the game comfortably to start the season with three points.
  7. McGowan, who was on loan at New Douglas Park in his Celtic days struck on 61 minutes, driving a Kevin Holt cross past Gary Woods from 12 yards. It was no more than the Dark Blues deserved, in a game they dominated. The win also pulls Dundee to within a point of second-bottom Ross County. It was a first defeat in five for Accies. Hamilton started really well and in the opening 40 seconds Grant Gillespie picked out Eamonn Brophy inside the box. The striker appeared to be pulled down but the ball broke to Ali Crawford, who fired over from just outside the box. Dundee then took a grip of the game and were perhaps unfortunate not to be ahead at the interval. After five minutes Tom Hateley's corner from the right was met with an angled header by Julen Etxabeguren, which flashed just past the right post corner. A minute later Kostadin Gadzhalov timed his run perfectly to clear after Crawford had sent Brophy through. Dundee had another promising chance after 18 minutes when Craig Wighton broke down the left but he slipped his shot just past the near post. A minute later the home side had a chance. Alex D'Acol's throw-in from the left was knocked on for Greg Docherty, but he sent a dipping shot bouncing just past the left post. The hosts then created their best move of the game, but D'col sent a shot just over the top right corner from 20 yards. Dundee could have taken the lead after 26 minutes. Wighton broke down the left and created a chance for Marcus Haber who could only flick his shot past the right post as he slid in. Hamilton had another half-chance as the first half came to a close, but Crawford fired over from just outside the box from a Brophy knock-down. After 59 minutes Docherty broke free on the right and delivered a deep cross that was well headed by Imrie, but cleared for a corner. Two minutes later McGowan got on the end of Holt's cross 12 yards out to give the visitors the lead. It became scrappy after the goal with a lot of Accies moves ending with referee Stephen Finnie's whistle as their frustration mounted. Dundee nearly put the result beyond doubt after 82 minutes when Holt went on a terrific run down the left and squared for Hateley, but his shot was well blocked by Lennard Sowah. Reaction Dundee manager Paul Hartley: "We have been on a bad run. I can only applaud the players, they were superb in every department. "Hamilton didn't really threaten us at all and we deserve that win. We were the better team. "We had some good meetings during the week and I explained a few things to them. We were all honest about what we needed to do better and we're going to fix it together - fight in every game now." Hamilton player-manager Martin Canning: "It was always going to be a stuffy game. "Over the piece, did we deserve to win the game? Definitely not. Did we deserve to lose the game? Probably not either but that's football for you. "We've lost and we need to lick our wounds and go again next week."
