    Ex Dee Interview: Graham Webster

You were in U19 squad during the deefiant season. You would then make your debut on the 10th April 2011. How did that feel for you? My debut for Dundee was really a dream come true to be honest. Id been a lifelong fan and season ticket holder up until the point I signed full time so was really something special for me and I will never forget that day. What was the dressing room like when we went 23 games unbeaten? It was obviously a massive mountain to climb when we got our 25 points deduction but the boys were so determined and focused on overturning that deficit we knew we'd manage to put some sort of run together. What was the camaradary like in the dressing room? The boys were different class. It was obviously a massive step up for myself and the other young lads but they welcomed us in and made us feel part of the team straight away. There was massive characters in that dressing room with the likes of Jeebs (Gary Harkins) and Big Rab (Douglas). What was last game of the season like after everything that the SFA had threw at us and for us to stay in the league? The last game of the season was incredible. I remember it so well against Patrick. Personally, I was a bit annoyed I never got on the pitch but what an achievement it was to go on that run and stay in the league. I'll never forget that lap of honour at the end, seeing all the fans clapping and cheering. During your spell at Dens, who were you closes too? I had a very good relationship with a lot of the boys at Dens. Obviously all the young lads was really close with the likes of Leighton MacIntosh, Gary irons and Alan Tulleth. I would say I was closest to them then obviously when I got my chance and signed my first team contract, I was very close with Benedictus and Conor Rennie but all the boys were brilliant. You left Dundee go on loan to Peterhead and now play for the Montrose. When did you know Montrose were interested? Well as soon as my deal was up at Dens Jinky (Ray Farningham) managed to sort me out and gave Stuart Garden a phone who was manager at the time. He asked me along to training and from there on, I've not really looked back to be honest. With over 100 apps and 19 goals for Montrose, what is the most memorable goal and why? I would have to say my one against Arbroath. I had just been brought back from loan from Carnoustie and it was my first game back and Paul Hegarty and John Holt had just replaced George Shields and Lee Wilkie. They threw me straight back into the team for the Derby and I stuck one in the top corner in the first half and went on to get Man of the Match for that game so definetly that one. Best captain/manager to work with? Captain I would have to say Jeebs when I was at Dundee purely cause he's just a tremendous guy. I was his boot boy for a while and when I got my first team deal he helped me a lot in training and games and was always encouraging you and wanting you to do better. Manager I would have to say Barry smith as he also helped my development a lot being my 19s manager then first team manager at Dens. He gave me the opportunity to go out on loan at Peterhead and get me games and personally, also a really nice guy. You were part of the Deefiant season but have you experienced anything like the siege mentality any where else? The only ever time I've really experience that sort of mentality was the playoff game for Montrose against Brora. We were 1-0 down from the first leg and we needed to win to keep Montrose in the SPFL, and all the boys were alll so determined to make sure it didn't and it never so yeah, probably that. You just signed a new deal for Montrose what is it like around the club? Excellent! The club are definitely on the go just now and there's so much ambition and determination to get better as a club on and off the field. With the new manager coming in I think it's been a massive breath of fresh air for everyone and it's really good to be involved with that. What was it like to work with Barry Smith? As I said before, he helped me a lot through my development and gave me my opportunity in the first team at Dens. He was a great coach and a leader as all Dundee fans probably know from when he was a player, but I couldn't speak highly enough of him. He done so much for me and I'm very happy he's back in management now. From your time at Dens do you still keep in touch with any ex teamates? Yeah but not as much as I maybe want to be. I'vecrossed paths with a few boys through games last season likes of Benny (Kyle Benedictus) and Iain Davidson at Raith. Then just recently, we played Peterhead in our playoff games and Nicky Riley and Leighton McIntosh were there so it was good to catch up with them. Also about Neil McCann he was a good lad off the pitch and he was another one who kind of spurred the younger lads on and helped us. He was obviously at the end of his playing career but managed to pop up with that goal against Raith which was brilliant. I hope he takes the job on full time as he as an attachment with the club and would definitely take the club in the right direction. *Interview conducted before McCann took accepted the Managers job with Dundee.
