  4. A lacklustre Dundee performance resulted in the dark blues being held to a 0-0 draw with Peterhead and having to rely on coming out on top of the penalty shoot-out to claim the extra bonus point for the second match running. View full news article
  5. Following an utter shambolic display against Ayr United at Dens Park which seen Dundee easily beaten 3-0 by the Championship side, McCann let rip at his side as well as shouldering the blame for the defeat. View full news article
  6. This Saturdays league cup clash against Ayr United at Dens Park may conjure up past memories of previous encounters for the older generation of Dundee fans but for the younger ones out there, we once took on Ayr in this very competition with a place in the 1980-81 final at stake. 7. PREVIEW After the horror show that DUNDEE served up last weekend, the Dee bounced back with a 2-0 victory away to Petehead. Kharl Madianga grabbed his first goal in the dark blue while Jean Alassane Mendy made it two goals in three since joining us. Elliot Parish was given a run out and returned with a clean-sheet which will undoubtedly give McCann a headache with who he feels should be tween the sticks. Steven Caulker and Jesse Curran will have also put themselves in the frame for a starting spot following their displays. Nathan Ralph is also available for selection along with Glenn Kamara. BRECHIN CITY will travel to Dens with nothing to play for and licking their wounds following a midweek 7-1 defeat to soon-to-be group winners Dunfermline. They will have Euan Smith and Andy Jackson available for this tie while Giuiliano Morena, Jordan Sinclair and Ryan McGeever will miss out. After failing to win a single game last season, Brechins league cup campaign has seen them draw against Peterhead but lose out on penalties for the bonus point and grabbed their first win in 241 days with a victory away to Stirling Albion. The last time the clubs met was also in this competition and it was also the first time ever we had been drawn in the league cup. The match ended 2-2 with our goals coming from Leigh Griffiths and Brechins from Rory McAllister. Brechin would win the tie 3-1 on penalties. Did You Know? Simon Lynch has scored the most goals for Dundee in this fixture with 4 in total. 8. THE DEE need to deliver six-points this week in our ties with Peterhead and Brechin and by firing in plenty of goals to give the club the best possible chance to proceed from the group stages in second place. With Dunfermline unlikely to slip up in their last two games, that’s the situation we find ourselves in. Sunday was a horror show for the team and especially for the fans who watched the defeat to the Pars. It was lacklustre to say the least and Dundee were made to look like the Championship side instead of our opponents. The team lacked any urgency and it seemed like the eleven players on the park were total strangers and only met a few minutes before kick off. It was an unacceptable performance which all us supporters hope have been met with a swift boot up the 'erse.' Dundee also face the possibility of missing the three players who came off injured on Sunday, Sofien Moussa, Nathan Ralph and Genseric Kusunga. Also, still out of action will be Glenn Kamara and Roarie Deacon. Darren O'Dea has returned to training. PETERHEAD are already out of this competition so they have nothing to play for except getting fitness levels up and prepared for the start of their League One campaign. The Blue Toon have yet to find the back of the net so far in the League Cup but they still have the threat of Rory McAlister up top along with old foe Derek Lyle. Derek however is just recovering from a calf strain and with his partner due to give birth this week, may not yet make the match. 9. The last time our two clubs met was also in this competition a few years back which unfortunately for us seen the Fife come out on top with a 3-0 victory at East End Park. Like most clubs in Scotland, it's been a busy summer for the Pars so we spoke to Pars Review to get the lowdown on his team. The Pars fell at the first stage of the play-offs last season despite from what I seen, having plenty of opportunities to make it to the semi-final. Undoubtable a disappointed end to the season but how would you rate your finish last term? We did very well in the fourth quarter of the League season after a very poor period between November to early March. Midfield was the issue and once the new trio of midfielders signed during January all settled in, results and form improved. All 3 of those players (Tom Beadling, James Craigen and James Vincent) are now back at our club for this season, although Beadling is injured and Vincent is also carrying a slight injury, restricting him to one sub appearance this season. We went into the playoffs with some confidence but a harsh red card in the first leg of the Dundee United 2 leg quarter final (which was overturned a week later on appeal) cost us a good chance of winning the home leg. We went 1-0 up at Tannadice and then missed a glorious chance to make it 2-0. United then scored twice and we were out. It’s been a busy summer for Dunfermline with plenty of players leaving and going. What players have you been disappointed to see leave and who has excited the fans the most upon their arrival? I think a certain Fassial El Bakhtaoui might get a mention. It's always disappointing to lose your captain (Callum Morris) plus the two top goal scorers (Nicky Clark and Declan McManus), plus one of the main attacking threats of the final few weeks of last season, Fraser Aird. The manner of Aird's departure was very disappointing, jumping ship to United after he told our club he would sign a new deal with us. Morris knocked back a new contract to play in England, then a few days later signed for Ross County! All 4 are good players but I am impressed by their replacements and genuinely believe we have a better squad now. Faissal is a great example of a player who 'belongs' at a certain club; he is loved at Dunfermline and we are delighted to have him back. Myles Hippolyte looks to be a good signing too, and the players who returned from last season, mentioned already, plus new arrivals such as the Longridge brothers, Aidan Connolly and Danny Devine, have all played well so far. We were told by Thistle fans that Devine was a poor player but he has looked very good so far. Your league campaign got off to a good start against Peterhead on Tuesday. How did Dunfermline play in their first competitive match of the 2018-19 season? We played very well in the second half against Peterhead last night. Some of the quick passing movements involving Higginbotham, Connolly, Longridge and Hippolyte was great to watch. The Championship looks like it will be very competitive this season but what are the expectations among the support with regards to the league and cups? The Championship will be very tough this season; at least 6 clubs have hopes of promotion. We have improved our league position every season under Allan Johnston and hope/expect to challenge for the title and to (at the very least) secure a top 4 finish again. You have James Vincent and Fassial El Bakhtaoui on loan from us but they will miss the tie on Sunday. Will they be massive losses to the team? The team has done well in pre-season and in the one Betfred game without Vincent and Faissal - Vincent has one sub appearance this season, while Faissal hasn't played at all so far. If both were fit and available, they would be an asset but with the midfield doing well and with new signing Hippolyte scoring last night, plus a goal from striker Andy Ryan, we can cope without the 2 players mentioned. Finally, What's your score predictions for Sunday? I'd be very happy with a draw; I have great memories of some tremendous Dundee v Pars games at Dens over the past 25 years. The clubs are similar in many ways but I have to make Dundee favourites given your Premiership status. I was at your game at Stirling at the weekend and your new players all looked very good. McGowan also impressed, with everything going through him in midfield. PREVIEW THE DEE got off to a flyer last weekend when they put four past Stirling Albion at Forthbank Stadium without reply. Sofien Moussa took his tally in this competition since signing last year to seven goals when he grabbed a double. Jean Medny also got off the mark as his Dundee career began with a goal after Moussa set him up to slot home. The pass wasn’t the best but Mendy was able to control the ball and slot it past the defence and goalkeeper between the sticks. Craig Wighton capped off a fine second half performance when he added No.4. Despite a few shaky moments in defence in the first half and a double-save from Jack Hamilton at the beginning of the second, the result was never in doubt against Stirling. DUNFERMLINE had to wait until midweek to get their campaign underway and did so with a 3-0 victory over Peterhead at East End Park. New signing Myles Hippolyte opened the scoring in the first half and despite Peterhead hitting the post and then following up the rebound by striking the bar, the Pars would put this tie to bed in the dying minutes through a Karl Higginbotham penalty and a solo effort from Andy Ryan. TEAM/INJURY NEWS Dundee were dealt the bad news when midfield maestro Glenn Kamara picked up a knock in training and will miss Sundays tie and may well miss the rest of the league cup ties. The player is wearing a protective boot which the club said is a precautionary measure. 10. Stirling Albion will be our first opponents for the 2018-19 season and we were lucky enough to catch up with the Binos chairman Stuart Brown who took time out of his holiday abroad to speak to us. When Dave MacKay took over the reins at Stirling, he turned the team into one struggling at the bottom of the league to a side that finished 3rd the next season. That must have exceeded your expectations, especially since this was his first managerial role? Whilst our target at the beginning of the season was a Play Off spot, in all honesty, everyone at the Club, including Dave, was hugely disappointed that we didn’t achieve promotion. We got off to a fantastic start but injuries to key players and a loss of form for two sustained periods during the season were ultimately our downfall. Last season you finished one point away from second place in the group stages of the League Cup behind Falkirk and Inverness. Are you a fan of the new format which enters its third year this season? A huge fan! The straight knock out format was stale and unattractive to fans. We’ve been seeded to finish bottom of our group both years and we’ve finished third on each occasion. Aside from the footballing achievement, the financial benefit from doing so is considerable for a club at our level. MacKay has signed seven new players this summer. Is there anyone that we should be wary of out of your new recruits? All seven, Dave hasn’t signed them to make up the numbers! Seriously though, aside from those with a proven pedigree, I’m delighted for young Kevin Fell who was scouted for us playing Saturday morning amateur league football in Glasgow. He’s young, inexperienced and has loads to learn but his raw talent is there to be seen. I also understand a certain young goalkeeper, Calum Ferrie, is a very bright prospect but you won’t need to worry about him breaking your hearts on Saturday! Peter MacDonald is still a popular fans favourite with the Dundee support but could he be the man to break our hearts with a few goals on Saturday? What’s your score prediction? Peaso has plenty still to offer, including being a great influence on our youngsters but I’ll settle for a 90th minute winner from the penalty spot from him on Saturday! Finally, what's your expectations for Stirling this season? Pre-season has gone well but we’ve just been hit with the news that last year’s captain, Willie Robertson has had to put his footballing career on ice due to work commitments which leaves us short in midfield. Once we sort that and add one or two good loan signings, I’m confident we’ll be in the mix come next May. That said, I’m sure a good number of our rivals will be thinking similarly. Preview and Stats First up for The Dee in this seasons Betfred League Cup is a trip to Forthbank Stadium to take on League Two side Stirling Albion. In the Binos dugout will be a familiar face in the form of ex Dee Dave Mackay. Another face that one or two fans will recognise will be Championship hero Peter MacDonald who will more than likely be leading the attack. Stirling finished 3rd in League Two last year but unfortunately failed at the first hurdle in the Play-offs, beaten by Peterhead 4-0 over both legs. MacKay has been busy in the transfer market with seven new players recruited, Jason Marr (Albion Rovers), Neil McLaughlin (Motherwell), Jordan Allan (Elgin City), Kevin Fell (UB United), Danny Jardine (St Johnstone), Mark Stewart (Dumbarton) and Calum Ferrie (Dundee, loan). Neil McCann has himself been busy wheeling and dealing this summer. We have seen the arrival of five new faces going by the names of Jack Hamilton (Hearts), Karl Madianga (No Club), Elton N'Gwatala (Kidderminster), Nathan Ralph (Woking FC) and Jean Alassane Mendy (KSC Lokeren). Stirling finished 3rd in their group last season, narrowly missing out on second place by a point while Dundee made it to the quarter finals, beaten 4-0 at home to eventual winners Celtic.
