Dundee are unable to add any new bodies to their ranks prior to the New Year’s derby.

With the transfer window in Scotland not officially opening its doors until midnight on Saturday, the Dark Blues’ quest for reinforcements has been thwarted, temporarily at least.

The club have been linked with a move for free agent Stephen Pearson in recent days, with manager Paul Hartley keen to bolster his ranks.

And Paul has been desperate to see if some kind of agreement could be reached prior to the 12.15 showdown at Tannadice.

But, due to the early nature of the game in the calendar month and subsequent administrative regulations, it’s proved impossible for the club to get their opening deal of the winter window over the line.

It’s believed club officials are working around the clock, though, to make sure they have at least one new face in prior to Sunday’s home clash with Ross County.

In terms of incomings and a few outgoings, January is a month the manager is keen to exploit.

It was only a matter of weeks ago he stated the difficulty clubs like Dundee have this month, as managers are obviously not keen to let their better players leave. But that does not mean he isn’t ready to try and do business.

A number of trialists have been in to the club’s Riverside training base over the last four weeks as the manager runs the rule over potential in the unattached market.

Paul has been on record as saying he is keen to add at least three more players by the time Monday, February 2, and the end of the window, comes around.
