Spiritof62 Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 Reviewing a lot of our games this season, I would venture an opinion that Bain has a weakness getting to shots and headers on his left hand side. There are far too many for it to be a coincidence. Mind you it does not help when your two central defenders are caught 30 yards apart at the Saints first goal.
Boba Fett Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 The odd Dino Zoffesque wonder performance aside, I've been more disappointed with Bain than anyone else this season. He's chucked in a good few tbh. I'm really not fussed about him wanting away.. hopefully we can get some half decent wedge for him this summer. Probably an unpopular view but I don't think he's all he's cracked up to be. He's certainly not consistent or dominant enough when the going gets tough.
8utters Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 (edited) I had thought he was at fault for both goals on Saturday (in part) but having seen the highlights I'm not so sure. The first he was left totally exposed and ended up caught between staying on his line and leaving an easy header past him or coming off his line, leading to what happened. The second, where I felt he failed to extend his arm to the ball, seems to take a wicked bounce in front of him and was a really well struck shot. But he has had far more moments this year where he seems to have 'switched off'. I am sure PH has a replacement in mind should he get the big money move he's after. 1 club Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 does best when no time to think. must be difficult for him in most games with what is in front of him. not putting him down just my view on what I have seen

Ha, I thought he should have come out for the first. He used to be more proactive about this but as per the speculation on here (which I can see the logic in) he seems to have stopped doing that so maybe coached not to. Certainly someone round me thought it was his fault, they were pretty vocal about him "effing off to MK Dons" Second I felt was the defences fault, aye, he maybe could have got it, maybe, but due to poor defending they got the shot off. It's interesting how we can all watch the same game and come away with different conclusions. Certainly makes for a more interesting forum.
DFC1974 Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 A lot of Bain's 'questionable' moments have certainly come from his left side but that might partly come down to our left flank being potentially weaker with Holt not having natural cover in front of him. This also means any crosses from this side will headed/shot back across Bain's goal into his left side. Would really like Bain to stay and I personally think his big move ship might have already sailed. He was outstanding after coming in for Kyle and then last season where I think big clubs might have started taking notice. However, this season he hasn't been nearly as consistent and, unfortunately for Bain, I feel his best games have been on the back of a hiding where, despite his performance, he has still had to pick the ball out the net 2 or 3 times (Aberdeen game springs to mind). I've read one or two articles that have also mentioned that big clubs might have been put off after recent performances not long after rejecting the new contract. Tin hat on but I think it might be likes of Hemming's Oxford or McGinn's Chesterfield that will be the calibre of club that comes in for Bain....( No doubt Real Madrid will come in with a multi million pound bid now I've said that!)
WESTENDDEE Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 His kicking and distribution are shocking. And getting worse 1
Attilio Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 This thread is turning into a bit of a minter. Another few posts and there will be no part of the boys game that is even adequate. Get a grip. He was badly let down by the parting of our central defenders and midfielders that failed to match the runs of Paton and then Alston. 7

You're interrupting the flow here Attilio, we're well on the way to circle jerking Bain to be worse than Roy here. It must be his turn.
Cobra Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 I felt he should have done better for the second. Not a great day for our keeper or any of the back four.

Of all the positions in the team that need improvement, goalkeeper is bottom of the pile. 4
