WeighorstsWang Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 Every player at Dens has weakness'. Why isn't there topics telling us if theirs? Bain gains us more than he costs us - and that is invaluable in a goalkeeper. Good luck finding someone as good as him, even those with budgets that far outstrip ours are landed with gutter goalies. 3

If we gave our goal some basic protection we would have stayed in the game and possibly nicked a goal ourselves. At 2-0 the game was effectively over.

Absolutely nothing to base it on than blind optimism but I thought if we'd run at them and tried putting them on the back foot it would have taken the pressure off our defence who had a bad day and might just have got us a goal or two. The flip side would be taking a tanking which we prevented in the second half somehow. Time to prep for next weekend now though.

Hadn't commented so far as i'm sure I read a few people on here the other day saying he was clearly wasn't fit? A couple of yards faster/sharper and i'm sure he'll be a player as he's shown in glimpses in his previous games. Just seems a bit off the pace just now.

sneddee Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 excellent keeper, saved us on many occasions!! it was the ch's fault imo.

I don't think losing Bain would be anywhere near as catastrophic as people make out. I also disagree with the "he's saved us more than he's cost us" argument this season. Poor showings in the main from him this season given the standards he set in the previous two. 1

Thought he was poor Saturday also in an attacking sense. I know he's a defender, but with his pace, I think he's a vital attacking player when we have the ball when he gets down the wing. To be fair to him though, O'Hara wouldn't link up with him to send him away. Holt and Wighton should look to play the one two also on their side to get in behind defences. Think he's having a good season though overall. Edited 13 March 2017 by CW 90+3 02/05/16

Nobody's above criticism when they're playing poorly - including Cammy Kerr or Craig Wighton. Those two have been singled out and put under the microscope far more than Scott Bain.

Agree, I'd like to see both flanks work better together but we've not been playing very often with proper wide midfielders so I'm willing to give it time. We've had limited players who have worked well together, for me I thought Darth Dixon and Gavin Swankie had a really good understand and worked well overlapping going forward. Its easy to cherry pick though and as we've played a number of formations it might be tough to build up this understanding quickly. This of course opens up a whole different debate or two. Maybe others can say, I've no idea if St. J or Partick etc have a more consistent style/tactics which maybe gives them an edge over other teams who fluctuate more. As I've said earlier though, apparently there's a sizeable (or at least vocal on forums) chunk of the St. J support who aren't happy with what they are getting served up and would be keen for a change of manager because St. J aren't entertaining enough. Just my ramblings.
Cobra Posted 13 March 2017 Posted 13 March 2017 This ball into our box for the Cummins chance after just five minutes gone sums up our team's concentration levels for the game. Holt, Gadz and O'Dea are all in No Man's Land ballwatching at the front post. As soon as McLean knocks in a decent ball, we're in serious trouble. Kerr is the only Dee in a position to protect Bain's goal but he can't mark four men at once. You haven't got a hope in hell of getting a result when so many players are posted missing when the opposition attack.
