I also disagree with the "he's saved us more than he's cost us" argument this season. Poor showings in the main from him this season given the standards he set in the previous two. Fair enough Boba. I'm not suggesting Bain is irreplaceable, nor am I saying he's had as good a season as previously. Your way of wording it is telling though. He's not been as good as his own standards this season, I'll agree with that, but he's still had a good season and has been the equal of nearly all keepers in the league and better than most. We've all seen (across the road for example) what happens when a team REALLY puts a load of haddies between the sticks. Suddenly the position doesn't look as easy. We'll agree to differ on the saved us more than cost us point. I think we'd be maybe three or four points worse off without him and that would put us even more in the brown stuff than we are now. I'll stick to my mantra that putting extremely average CBs in front of him and playing for a team that most weeks can't stop a cross coming into our box has put him in more situations to make mistakes in this season. Yes, he's made mistakes, but boy is he given opportunity to make them and I doubt he'll have oodles of confidence in a lot of what he sees in front of him. You call it 'good faith' he's built up with fans. I'll go with people knowing he's the best keeper we've had for a wee while and knowing we could do MUCH worse. Not necessarily lumping you in with them Boba, but less folk would be thinking this way if Bain could put up with brainless clowns shouting abuse at their own team and if he hadn't said he wanted away. Anyway, the crux of my post was that out of all the positions needing improved, goalkeeper is bottom of the pile. Personally I'd take a goal scorer, 2 CBs, a real playmaker and at least one, possibly two genuine wide men with pace and an ability to cross the ball before even considering replacing the keeper. With Mitchell between the sticks, it suddenly becomes a priority, admittedly, on what little we've seen. 4

Hearts should have been out at sight but then they got that injury which unsettled them, O'Dea rifled in a half-chance and Hearts seemed to collapse. We've lost every away game where we've conceded first since September 2015 so we were never likely to recover from 2-0 down in Perth. Which is nowhere near good enough and highlights my other mantra - Hartley's ability to change the outcome of a game after it has started is possibly his biggest weakness.

There was a thread not long ago questioning if Wighton was performing to the standard expected. What standards are expected of a 19 year old in his first full season? Theres a massive difference between piling pressure on a youngsters shoulders (Wighton) and allowing Kerr to get away with relinquishing possession a hell of a lot because he's tenacious and 'one of us'. It's a trait certain fans here and elsewhere carry. You're allowed to be poor if you're seen to run about and throw your body about (also see McPake, James). Furthermore, you were claiming a top six berth only a few weeks back and at the weekend "we'll be lucky to avoid relegation". Opinions like that deserve to be 'ripped to shreds'. Drama queen-esque.

Current form is probably a poor choice of words. He's been poor this season in comparison to the last two is the point I'm making. Somehow I get the feeling your interpretation of his performances will differ from mine so I'll leave the post mortem of his season at that. 1

Wighton is "one of our own" is he not? That's the point i'm making, and I've also seen people criticising Cammy Kerr at the weekend, 3 despite the fact that he was no worse that anyone else. I was one of his biggest critics at the start of the season, as I didn't think he was good enough to make the step up, but i've been happily proved wrong. The way the league is this year I think most people's opinions change weekly in where teams will finish come the end of the season. Before the Thistle game, Im sure most people, including myself, would have had us down as favourites to finish in the top-6, however the last 2 results have completely changed that, and with the run of games we have up until the split we are in trouble, of course we are. Don't see how that makes me a drama queen. Edited 15 March 2017 by RossDee01
