DFC1974 Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Leaving Aberdeen at the end of season. Would he be a suitable replacement for Scott Bain for a season to give PH ample opportunity to find a longer term appointment?
Cobra Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 I'd be happy with Alexander. Hearts fans said it was a mistake to let him leave. He is getting on at 39 but if he looks after himself could still be a decent signing.
HH66 Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 I don't think signing 39 year old players is the way to go to be honest - rather try a player from the lower leagues , got to be someone with potential down there
Reverend Lovejoy Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Would take Alexander with a young lad as understudy for him to train up.
WeighorstsWang Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Wage dependant, I wouldn't be against this. Would be a brilliant player for Goirlay to learn from.
CC33 Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Wouldnt want Alexander ... if we were to sign an old keeper id be doing all i could to bring back Speroni.... id be dancing if that happened. Tho There will be many steady keepers out there looking for a club
harry94 Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Really hard to know what sort of state he's in but I wouldn't be against it if we had a look at him and he hasn't declined enormously in the last year. Instinct is an experienced keeper with a more youthful one to challenge. I quite like the idea of Gary Woods from Hamilton the more I think of it. Only 26 so still room for improvement but plenty of experience and seems to be really solid all round and consistent. Hamilton would be a lot worse off without him from games that I've seen. Nothing spectacular but think we'd be pretty comfortable in the position for a few years if we did go for him.
Dundeefc1783 Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 If we are going down the route of signed an older keeper would prefer Mannus from st Johnstone, always thought he was decent and looks like he keeps himself in good shape.
Prince Buster Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 No progressive club would even consider signing a 39 year old as first choice keeper surely? Lower division club looking for consolidation maybe but a Premiership club? Are the posters who are advocating this saying that we are, or should not be, a progressive club?
Cobra Posted 16 March 2017 Posted 16 March 2017 Brad Freidel played for Spurs in the Premier League aged 42 so age alone shouldn't mean Alexander isn't up to playing at our level. In an ideal world, we'd have someone like Alexander as a GK coach who is also very capable of taking the jersey plus a younger unproven guy with the potential to be a top keeper.

John Burridge and Andy Goram played in the top league here at a fair age.

Gianluigi Buffon is doing perfectly well as one of if not the best goalkeeper in the world. He's erm... oh, he's 39.
