He certainly owes ph some good performances but there are far better players than him who have for one reason or another not performed.

Wattie I honestly think PH owes Williams. The laddie has been dealt a bad hand so far.

Williams doesn't have pace, he's not much of a dribbler and he's not aggressive so it's sometimes hard to work out what he brings to the team.

When I think back to Dingwall he was really effective just by tracking back, making himself available, showing a good touch and making some decent passes.

If Hartley plays him in his favoured position for a few games we'd probably appreciate him a bit more.

You forgot his 'bandy legs.  Could be the most bowed legged player I've seen in a good few years.  Add that to your own assessment and there isn't much left to admire.

In all seriousness though, I agree with your last sentence.  The main problem is though that when he has been started at left mid it appears his main job was to provide cover to our left back and he didn't get forward as much as he should have been.  All imo of course.

Don't agree this is the case with Williams , having watched him this season I would expect him to throw us a bone and show us there is something about his game that can justify his signing but to me he hasn't.

Maybe in the knowledge that he had received a 3 year contract he felt he didn't have to hit the ground running..

Not being funny Stobbie, but why do us fans always presume that a footballer's default setting is 'don't care'?

I reckon he'd far rather be playing first team football from the start of games that fannying about in development games and getting 5 minute here and there for the first team.

Last night he was leading the line with El Bak and Wighton in behind him, then he ended up as CM. When he plays for the first team he LM. Is it any wonder he doesn't know if he's coming or going?

What's he done in a Dundee shirt to earn any praise Chomp? He needs to get his finger out and start to turn in some decent performances. He's not so far so he's getting some warranted stick I'd say.

Maybe if he got a run in his true position rather than being shoehorned into the team or brought on when we're chasing a game he might be able to show us what he can do.

He is being judged as a defensive player or a central midfielder but his cv says he's a winger. That's what we signed him as. That's unfair imo.

^^^^^^ The Rev has nailed it.

Do you think giving him 'stick' is the way to motivate him then ? While he maybe hasn't done much to "earn praise" that doesn't mean the default setting is giving him pelters.

Possibly he'll feel that way mate.

The fact he can play a few positions possibly counts against him.

I hadn't really noticed the shape of his legs but it does seem as though he's up against it in terms of trying to make an impact.

I'd love to be able to ask Hartley why he signed Williams. What did he expect having watched him for ICT? Is he less adaptable than was anticipated? Is there a confidence issue? Was it just a case of signing a Premiership player on a free and hoping he'd offer the team an option?

I did say maybe it was the case barkblue , I take on board the inactivity and being played out of his natural position but wherever he plays his demeanour reminds me of a certain Ryan Conroy.

For me a much maligned player. He had lots of flaws in his game but (and it pains me to say it) I thought Brown got Conroy to work a lot harder, tracking back and even trying to put the odd tackle in. It seemed to me that Conroy was a guy who needed someone to crack the whip, he'd been getting by on what he did well but had more to give.

He'll always get a pint from me for this alone....

He's being called pish because he been nothing but pish since he's arrived.

We're  all desperate for him not to be but the fact is he's shown absolutely nowt to suggest he should be at Dens.

His confidence will be low but that's football when you're going through a bad spell. As sure as night follows day, Footballers need to put up with stick if they're not performing.

To me it's like buying a cat and expecting it to bark.

Ah well, that's that settled then, either black or white, nothing in between, good guy or wank and give the wanks pelters. I suppose it depends why you go to the football.
