EastLothianBlue Posted 25 March 2017 Posted 25 March 2017 If ever there was an example of a player being slated and then a year later being celebrated then surely it is Holt. If you scroll through old forums it is littered with scathing comments on Holt...fast forward a year and some /many people are even talking about him being (almost) our player of the year etc. oh...hang on...maybe that proves the theory that if you lambast someone every week they might improve...wow...Williams will be captain by the end of the month!! as an aside, because there are still many Holt slaters I was slightly worried about the mums and dad's who are heading along to the Hamilton Fun Day (surely an oxymoron) with their kids who may have never watched the Dee before...all that time during the game having to explain to their darlings which player is 'Fecking Holt'?!!! Right...I'm getting up now to put on my happy clapper tshirt and Dark Blue tinted glasses. It's a beautiful day. Hope everyone has a good one. 1

From pre season to league matches and at no time has there been any evidence to suggest he has what it takes . having a decent match against Forfar in a testimonial isn't proving anything I'm afraid other than perhaps that's the level where he can be effective ! Opinions mate. He did well at Inverness at this level, that's why we went out and signed him.

I think they should be safe enough....the families will all be in the Shankly, and we all know on this forum that it's only the 'knuckle-draggers' of all ages (but especially those wealthy, multiple-foreign-holiday pensioners) in the Bobby Cox who sl*g our own players for no apparent reason & sometimes before they've had their first touch of the ball 2

END OF !!!! etc. Let the age old forum war of happy clappers V doom and gloomer's carry on...... 1 of only 4 goals he scored while at ICT in 88 matches ... and on the eveidence hes shown since since coming to Dens he is Pish I'm afraid ! 5 hours ago, Reverend Lovejoy said: Opinions mate. Well seeing as he did well at Inverness we should sit back and let him see out his 3 year contract on good wages even if he continues to perform way below what the standard required is ? I'm NOT a boo boy at matches in fact I NEVER boo the team or individual players . I also always give player a chance to show what he can do but I'm afraid I'm not content on seeing a player we have signed on along term contract to offer what he has done up to now . We signed Meggatt and he clearly wasn't good enough despite looking the part at his previous club .. We signed the Tank who clearly wasn't good enough despite such positive signs prior to him coming on board .. If you want to go further back we signed guys like Arthur Albiston and Jimmy Johnstone who were TOP players at their previous clubs BIG CLUBS at that then For whatever reason It didn't work out for these guys .. In all these instances theye were shown the door and quite rightly so .. The same thing has to happen here with Williams if there isn't a serious improvement ! I couldn't care less what he did at his previous club . What concerns me is what hes offered since signing for DFC and he's offered very little . This isnt a charity case and if theres little sign of improvement on whats been offered so far by the end of the season he needs offloaded ASAP !

Meggatt and Tank came from lower league clubs and we took a gamble on them that didn't work out. Albiston and Johnstone were in the twilight of their careers and saw Dundee as their final chance to earn a wage at a decent level. You say you give players a chance but fail to recognise that Williams has hardly played here in his true position. You've decided to label him "Pish". A chance to me is a decent run of games in your position, not the odd cameo and a game here and there filling in or to suit a game plan. Again it's all about opinions.

He played all the pre season games and started the season in his true position and Im sorry but he was stinking . Even then though I was prepared to give the guy the benefit of the doubt and time to settle .. Unfortunately He has showed us no sign of improvement . YES he was shifted to paly wing back but he wasn't any better there to be honest that's why he was dropped and rightly so .. Since then any time he's come off the bench regardless where hes payed , Which HAS included his natural position , he has still offered nothing ! I WANT him to prove me wrong but at what point do we try get him off the wage bill and put it down to just being one of those things that sometimes happens ? As for the examples I gave the point I was making was sometimes it just doesn't work out for players at certain clubs and its best for all concerned if they are moved on . Andy Carroll was brilliant at Newcastle and Charlie Adam was quality and a EPL player of the year nominee while at Blackpool then both went Liverpool and it just didn't work out despite doing well at that level with their previous clubs .. Its not a new thing its just unfortunately one of those things ! I couldn't care less what he did at ICT as far as I'm concerned if he isn't going to do it at Dens he needs to go ( sorry if that sounds harsh ) ! If a club came in for Williams in the summer would you let him go or keep him on the wage bill in the hope one day he decided to become this super player that he apparently was at his last club ?

If someone is interested in Willliams in the summer ( and seeing as apparently he was so good at ICT there should be plenty interested parties ) would you prefer we move him on or preferred we keep him ?

Say all of your post is true, its not like a puppy from the Cat and Dog home, you can't just take him back if you change your mind. If he's as bad as you think then there will be no teams that would have him at our level so we'd have to toss in some cash to shift him on, maybe PH will in the summer, who knows but you seem desperate for him to go now when we're not even in a transfer window. Baffling. Guess you just need someone to have a go at.

I'm being honest here mate, I don't even read your post. It's clear we both see things differently and that's fine. There's no point in going over it again and again for the sake of it.
