Bain

Recommended Posts

Just watched 2nd goal again and Bain totally at fault. Hamilton player stands in front of him and he falls back into goal. He clearly rates himself, and he is a decent shot stopper, but no more than this.

Compare him to the Hamilton keeper yesterday, who commanded his box, and had a few good saves. I know which one I'd rather have. Don't think Bain will do much better than us, as he has a major weakness with crosses.

Probably very controversial but I'd drop Bain for Mitchell for the Well game. I am not suggesting Mitchell is a better keeper but Bain's heart is not in it, he is focused on leaving and the pelters he is taking from the stands doesn't really motivate him to give any more of a sh!t than he already doesn't do.

Whilst looking at changes, I've been impressed with the composure of Higgins. If he is naturally a midfielder then there is no club in more need of a composed midfielder. If Gadz is fit by the Well game, drop Hateley or Vincent to the bench and move Higgins into his favoured position.

We need players who have something to fight for right now.

How do you know that?

When he first came to us he dominated his six yard box. This season he stands and watches the game from his line, something's changed and it looks like he is following bonkers instructions the same as the rest of the team.

Yesterday's goal he just stood and didn't make any effort to move for the ball.

In my opinion, it's because he's lost confidence, and isn't as good as he thinks he is. He's hardly kept a clean sheet all season, plus has flogged a few goals also.

All about opinions and I think your opinion's just as likely to be right as mine. We'll probably never know the real reason though.

He's not a poor keeper but I have to agree that he maybe isn't the standard he believes he is.

Bain's a good keeper, still has huge potential but like many others has gone backwards in the last 18months. After his first season I would have said he was superb and in the top two keepers in the league. Now, well I'd say Gordon is streets ahead (he's always been better but not by such a margian), Lewis is better, Fodderingham and Fox are arguably better and there would be the same argument for Clark, Williams, Hamilton. In fact I'm not sure Bain is better than any other keeper in the league (also not saying he's worse but compared to a couple of seasons back I would have had him better than all them, now he's the same). Whatever has happened he needs to change not only to help us in the next five games but to help himself otherwise he's not getting a move any higher.

I don't believe that is the case, I think Scott is a phenomenal young keeper with all the tools to go far in the game. When he first broke into the side he was unbelievable at coming for crosses and one of the best I have seen at that in a Dundee shirt.

For the last two seasons he has been glued to his line. And it's not the first time that it's been mentioned that Hartley wants the defenders to deal with crosses and not Bain.

We have a keeper who has proven he is very competent at coming off his line and we have a defence who have proven that they are absolutely woeful at dealing with crosses into our box. So it's classic Paul Hartley to tell said keeper to stick to his line and let said defence deal with crosses. Nothing like playing to your strengths.

I actually feel sorry for Scott Bain, he is clearly a passionate guy and has vented his frustration toward the fans preciously. For me he is just as p*ssed off as us at these negative crazy tactics being employed by our hopefully soon to be former manager.

Ps..... PH GTF
