Should Huge Extra Bonus Payments Be Given As An Added Incentive?

I am no sure I'm being very clever in introducing a topic such as above at this time. To be really honest, part of my reason for doing so, is the forum has went mighty quiet the last few days & I guess it might remain so, until aroond 5.00pm saturday !!

The DFC manager & players will be working hard & fully focused on the game coming up & my concern & question is evenjust  raising this as a topic, might cause a distraction to them & us. But on the other hand, were it to be considered & then suggested by the Club, would it be the right thing to do. And would it have the desired effect of making players pull out that wee/big bit extra.?

The Club knows better than us, the huge financial effect on dropping down a division (hundred of thousands of pounds I imagine) Were you the Boss of DFC would you consider offering huge player & maybe even manager bonuses if it meant we kept our place in the Premiership? As DFC fans & supporters, we also of course are involved in the final outcome.

If I was being cold & calculating & thinking real hard about the financial consequences of possibly going down, I honestly feel (against my better principles I would be tempted to do so. But at the same time, I'd wonder why, would/could/should, the players manage to up their game, because I put an extra wee pot o' gold in front of them. Any thoughts lads & lasses on this?

In the five games ahead for each of the Clubs involved. players will be pulling out all stops to save their Club from going down. I wonder who (if any) will be on a bonus?

They already have financial incentives - SPL v Championship next season? Their careers going backwards and some being put on the transfer list if we are relegated.despite being under contract.

The worst case could be Admin and being made redundant. (heaven forbid)

The incentive is there in my view.

The only one in a win/win is Mccann - maybe a new job if he succeeds, back to the old job if he fails.

100% no from me, why should they get an extra reward for underperforming all season. Any other profession you would get a P45 for consistently poor performance!

The flipside of that is they might have been doing what the manager told them to do. You also get a P45 for not obeying the boss.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a bonus system already in place so I guess if comes down to how much would male a difference. They've missed out on a few win bonuses already this season sadly. Interesting point though Gedee.

I'd imagine as well that if we go down, there will be a significant financial hit for players in terms of wage reductions which is standard practice for clubs in our sort of situation.

With the hit in income to the guys signed up and poorer career prospects for players attached to relegating us, I imagine that there is already quite a big incentive to stay up. The guys familiar with out past will also be quite worried about our financial history and the destablisation of the club maybe meaning that they'll have to make drastic career choices (maybe even getting another job and going part time).

It would be a disaster financially for any player if we are to get relegated, particularly if they're already signed up for next season. There will definitely be relegation clauses in all contracts and I suspect there will already be win bonus' in their contracts. I can't see many of them being offered a better contract next season than their current one. They already have plenty incentive.

In many cases, when I start a topic, although I like to think it might be relevant & of interest. But really, it's to try to get a wee discussion going.

It looks like eh might have nearly succeeded here. Thanks for the varied, interesting reponses to date...(This time eI'll no' answer each direct)

As said in my opening gambit, an added financial reward, is no' something I'm really comfortable with. But again relegation is no easy to take.

Would it work? Should it even be considered? Cannae make up my mind aboot this. Guess other Clubs might. Let's make do wi the huddle....

Anyway who needs money when the ither option is a Warm Lovely Cuddle. In meh case preferably fae me wife or doags. No a Hairy MAN:chaplin:

Hi Chomp.

Gone are the days when players received a now basic wage and win bonuses. They are now all on an annual salary irrespective of whether they are playing on the pitch or sitting in the stand. The players only problem is when they come to the end of their current contract and start looking for another club.

Paul McGinn left at the end of last season and signed for Chesterfield FC. where he has played 18 games to date this season. Next season McGinn will be playing for Chesterfield FC in League 2 as Chesterfield have now officially been relegated from League I at the end of this season.

Don't think you are quite right there. They do get a basic annual salary but bonuses are still included.

It was confirmed in the press when Bomber was here that we had draw and win bonuses (he scrapped the draw bonus and doubled the win one) and it's still very common for it to be mentioned. There were performance clauses stated in public regarding Hartley's performance and it's still very commonly discussed for players at this sort of level. Our promotion resulted in automatic renewals to most first team players (netting guys like Benedictus, Conroy, Riley, Doris etc compensation pay offs) and it's maybe the case that our 3 year deals are actually not so firm with the final year and league status or appearances could play a factor. As well as this, a relegation reduction clause has also been widely publicised for clubs around our level and was mentioned in our accounts last time round.

I'd stake quite a lot of money on their being some sort of performance incentive being attached to the senior coaching and playing staff.
