That Nice Man Barton

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd stick it here as its betting related.

That prince amongst men Joey Barton has been suspended for betting on football, while I agree that its tight that footballers aren't allowed to beat on games outwith their own country even, this guy seems determined to break every rule he can.and then whine about how he's the victim. There'll be no tears in Casa Root at the 'plight' of the prick.

18 month ban is ridiculous in my opinion, far too severe

I don't disagree but if them's the rules.... As a professional athlete you have to make sacrifices in your life, this is just another one. Whining about your gambling addiction is only relevant if you've flagged it up before which doesn't seem to be the case, he's brought it up afterwards as I understand it. Oh, and its Joey Barton, I'll not link a whole lot of other stuff that he's done as we're probably all aware of it, plenty people have had a crap start in life and he's had more than his share of chances yet seems hellbent on fecking it up for himself, and then greeting about it. A total narcissist and an unpleasant person so my cup of sympathy is running on empty.

He placed 1,200 football bets in clear breach of the rules and even bet on his own team to lose. He used a betfair account in his own name and has probably been waiting to be caught so he could share his 100 reasons why he's the victim. I find it hard to feel sorry for the guy.

The difference in punishment handed to him by the SFA and FA is staggering. Someone needed to be made an example of to get the ball rolling on eradicating the gambling culture amongst players.

Couldn't have happened to a bigger CU next Tuesday. Go and buy outlandish materialistic nonsense or give funds to charity.

Nae sympathy fae me.

Weird eh ? Its almost like our parochial backwater or an institution were just grateful to have him in our league, like a big fish type thingummyjig. Apparently he's not such a big fish darn sarf, who knew. :what::lol2:

Personally I think its a bit tight that pro footballers can't bet on other leagues (as in other countries) but then there's lots of rules I don't think are right, doesn't mean I can't flout them. If this was a one off for Joey and he hadn't put a foot wrong elsewhere in his career I'd maybe have a bit of sympathy with him and his, ahem, gambling addiction but as he's got a record of being, how can I say, a total fud and getting chance after chance to redeem himself then nah, but I'm sure we'll get to hear how its not his fault. The cigar 'incident' wasn't his fault either.....honest, and he didn't have to pay compensation or anyfink, honest guv. He's such a narcissist he thinks he can do whatever he likes, if he couldn't kick a football I doubt anyone would have any interest in the odious creature. Oh yes, lets not mention his brother and the allegations about the bribery involved there either.

According to John Rankin most people in football are breaking the gambling rules. He says managers, referees, directors and chairmen are all involved in using their inside knowledge to place bets.

There must be players up and down the country thinking "the heads are down in training, we're going to lose at the weekend" and sticking a £100 on his team to lose. It's virtually impossible to stop as well if someone else's betting account is being used.

Easy. We've got something like 18 players on matchday and on top of that, a few players out injured. Even in a very well managed team, some of them will be disillusioned and feel so detached that it won't feel like anything to them.

As much as I hate Barton and it isn't an excuse to escape punishment, he does kind of have a point in pointing out some of the conditions that led to the situation and the FA do need to do a lot more to sort this. I'd maybe even suggest a moratorium and try to get guys to willingly come forward.

It's a joke of a situation. Gets bookies into the clubs, the leagues. Get players involved with the bookies. Punish players when they place a bet.

Barton bet on his team to lose - when he wasn't involved.

Barton only bet on his team when he was  involved, to win. A bet costing him near £750, that he lost.

Far too big a punishment. The FA should hang its head.

Racially abuse a player? 6 weeks.

Homophobic abuse? 6 weeks.

Stamp on a man's head? 6 weeks.

Place a bet on the football? 18 month.

I don't disagree, its a daft rule that players can't even bet on games outwith their country and I'd have no issues with the rule changing. I don't dispute your logic on how the FA reacted and if it was anyone else apart from the completely narcissistic and perma-denial phuqnugget that is Barton I'd probably be more sympathetic, he seems determined to tick every box on the phuqwit list and scream that its not his fault. If the Players Union campaigned to change things sure, I'd be sympathetic but when someone flouts a law/rule because it doesn't suit them then I tend to see them as selfish. If someone has 'A' (singular) drum to bang then it can be seen as a crusade, when someone seems dead set on breaking the rules on pretty much every issue then you have to ask what the common denominator is and in this case its the self absorbed throbber that is Joey Barton, he's just not a big enough fish to get away with it no matter how many times he tweets to keep himself in the spotlight.
