I'm no at all versed in the aspects of medical injuries/medical diagnosis/ treatment etc. in Footbal Clubs. But if it's anything like some o' the Doctors eh've listened to, I think it might leave a lot to be desired. I like Nicky Low. But how come it appears all of a sudden he is injury free? If NM continues as he started, & goes on to be DFC's permanent manager, I hope he looks well at the all sectors of th Club. Actually, I don't need to "hope" I know he will. Hope it all works out for NM. He will be thorough in his preparation & planning. And weel done Nicky :)

Curious that he's gone from perma-crock under Hartley to ever-present under Shiels.

With a year left on his deal I suppose it makes sense for him to report for pre-season at Dens and for the new gaffer to take a look at him.

I think the counter to that is we're going to struggle making changes to the squad in some positions as we've got players under contract.

If Derry were willing to take Low on and it meant his wages are completely freed up, that is another wage where we can invest where we want. Keeping him could work out but there's a strong chance he'll break down again and we'll be a player down.

I do really like him though and would be happy if he had another chance but just think we're going to have to be a bit ruthless to maximise the impact of our budget.

Gedee ive always questioned the injury problems at dens over the last few years, we've constantly got players out for long periods most of them with mysterious injuries ! very strange

It's maybe in some ways (wi' a stretch mind) like some ither joabs, where things are no' quite as good as they should be...And the sicky note came itae action ;)

I'm of the aulder kind & "acting responsible" was expected of you. But I remember on the long early bus journey making my early start to the shit factory on a lovely

summer morning (served a 6 year apprenticeship there) my mate & mehsel deciding tae hell we this !! ...We're awa fishing. And losing a day's wage wiis well worth the

sacrifice. Went ower the water tae Wormit for the day. No only did we catch fish, we returned wi' a braw tan Didnae go doon to weel, telling the gaffer we were seek :lol2:

I think the League of Ireland is significantly weaker than ours so I'm not sure Low would want to make it his permanent home. Also I wonder if Derry could pay his full wage (I'm guessing we currently pay a percentage of it), but yeah in an ideal world we'd ship him out for good to free up cash.

Nicky low has been dogged with injury throughout his career not just at Dens.

Rather than it being some wrong at Dens I think it's more that we have taken risks on players with history of problems like low, KT, loy, ferry etc

I think this is parially it. It's difficult to sign players of quality without their being some baggage (Gomis being physically superior to almost everyone in the league and having all the best attributes but absoloutley no brain to piece that together). Even Julen had actually semi retired from football because his injuries were quite bad.

I think these days, the physical intensity is so high and a lot of guys are putting their bodies through a lot of punishment for so long that any sort of weakness in any part of their body eventually gives up on them. Culture has also changed quite a bit and maybe some slight knock somebody has that they could theoretically force themselves back from is taken more seriously by the medical professionals who are on the look out for long term damage. As much as Thomson missed out for us, we kept him ticking over until the end and got use out of him while there's a good chance that he would have just been destroyed if he played a few games on the bounce. That attitude seemed to be quite prevaliant when we had Niam here and caused a bit of conflict.

More or less what I was about to post. I'd also add that maybe the demands or standards are slightly lower at Derry so Low is not training and playing at the same intensity. PH always talked about the demands he placed on players and of the highly intensive training drills he put them through. He very rarely took a chance on injured players, bar one or two, up until the point this season where we were desperate for any kind of result and he started throwing in less than fit players.
