Last Summer's Departures

Not sure if anyone is interested but it's been quite a bleak season for the Dees who left the club last summer. Some of them are maybe wishing they stayed at Dens.

Greg Stewart - yet to score for Birmingham and now restricted to mostly playing for the development squad. Relegation now looks unlikely for the Blues though after Harry Redknapp stopped the rot.

Kane Hemmings - on the bench after scoring just six league goals for Oxford, who have narrowly missed the League One play-offs.

Paul McGinn - relegated with bottom of League One Chesterfield.

Gary Harkins - relegation with Ayr is now inevitable.

Daryl Meggatt - as above.

Thomas Konrad - relegation looks very likely with Vaduz, who are bottom of the Swiss Super League.

I don't think Oxford will consider Kane a failure as he has scored an impressive nine goals in the cups but given his prolific form for Dundee I'm sure they're a bit disappointed that he managed only six goals in a 46-game league season.

I can see Harkins playing next season in League One. He'll boss games at that level regardless of how fit he is.

Sad for them, but

the top 2 netted us a cool £700,000 -  £1,000,000 between them in transfer fees.

Good to see it has been used to good effect.

I love the speculation being passed around on how much we made off the pair of them, we'll not know until the accounts are released. I'm not saying I know any different (I was told the numbers were larger but I'm not assuming they are totally accurate either) but it seems the Courier came out with some figures and they get taken at face value, the same paper that gets slated on a regular basis. Hey ho.

I hear what you're saying Chomp, but I think the guesstimate of between £700k and £1m is not going to be far off.

Regardless, a great bit of business comsidering what they cost us.

I wouldn't go as far as saying great piece of business when you compare what clubs like Falkirk have made in transfer fees recently.

I think the ages of the Falkirk players meant they could command a bit more. Hemmings, and the clause, is well documented. Stewart was a bit of a gamble for Birmingham. He had far less development potential than the Falkirk lads, was in his mid 20's and in the final year of his contract. To get a decent 6 figure sum with add on's was a good deal when you consider what we could've expected in Jan. Birmingham, or anybody else for that matter, were never going to pay big money up front for someone of Stewart's age and CV. 21yrs old with the 2 seasons he'd had at Dundee under his belt and we're looking at potentially 7 figures I think but not at 25/26yrs old.

I think Birmingham have been proved right in what they paid for Stewart (their fans might think differently) when you consider his stats since joining them. I think he'll end up at up Rangers, Hibs, Hearts or Aberdeen and be a bit of a stand-out again in a league bereft of entertainers like him. He might even receive the odd International call-up.
