Dundee Have Let Go Five Youth Players

Recommended Posts

Dundee have just announced that they have let go five youth players ahead of the end of the season.

Calvin Colquhoun, Matty Allan, Matty Smyth, Josh Skelly and Kyle Clark will not be offered new contracts when their current contracts come to an end at the end of this month.

Quite surprised that Colquhoun , Allan and Skelly have been let go as those 3 names stand out when ever i read folk on here praising yooth players.

Cost cutting, probably the price of failure at the club not reaching their targets of a top 6 finish again then season?

Doubt it will purely be for cost cutting - these guys won't be on much and there will be much higher wages elsewhere.

However, having said that I imagine there is more to come from the first team squad given the reasons you cite i.e. lack of prehz money and nae cup runs.

Just as long as they keep Gadz !!

I highly doubt we'd be releasing a promising youngster for the sake of 'saving' £20k(ish).

Yea id be surprised at that also.
Maybe a case that people within the club dont think they are good enough.

I havent seen any of them so im only going what i read i read on here from folk like Wattie etc

I wonder who's made the judgement call on this? Especially Allan and Skelly who have, by all accounts, impressed whilst out on loan?

Jimmy Boyle must have been keeping a close eye on them I suppose.

Obviously clearing the decks prior to the announcement of us signing Lionel Messi.

Wish them all welll. Strange though..

That is why my sentence was more of a question. I highly doubt it myself but it does seem strange that we have just released some very highly rated youngsters like this.

I just find some of the names on that list very strange to say the least.

Anyway regardless, I wish those guys all the best in the future.
