20th League Defeat Of the Season

Recommended Posts

With a game to go.

The most in the league.

Club 12 lost 22 all season.

Duffy's relegated Dundee in 2005 lost 21 all season.

A shameful stat.

Another 3 defeats on top of that to lower league opposition in the cups.

Really can't think of a worse non relegation top flight season in my time following this club.

Incredible. Shows how well McCann has done to keep us up with 2 to spare.

As we saw last night, Hartley had left us with a dreadfully unbalanced squad. Unfortunately most of them are on long deals and unlikely to find another team.

The static nature of our squad may be a deciding factor in McCann's decision to stay on. That would be a huge pity, as I think he'd be a great manager for us.

I think you're right, certainly the way the team performed last night was quite a contrast to the previous two, and will undoubtably have broadened McCann's list of 'decision making' points, on which to consider his future direction. He's seen both sides of Dundee from the bench now...it'll be interesting to see what he changes for Hamilton & which version of our team turns up.

and to think, this time last year we were complaining about the amount of draws we'd had. :(

We drew a lot of games last season because we fought to the final whistle and scored plenty late goals so all the moaning about draws made little sense to me.

This season folk got their wish. Once we fell behind we were beat so hardly any draws!

We had two of the top 4 attacking talents in the league last year. Drawing so many at home was always going to get grumbles. Yes it was better than what we have this season but in reality that's f**k all to brag about.

We did score a lot of late goals last season, particularly to secure draws. I'm of the opinion the reason for this was twofold -

1) Hartley did have them very fit, impressively so. Fittest in the league IMO.

2) Harley's overly-cautious approach tended to get abandoned as we went more direct towards the end of games. The ball went forward quicker, we committed more men forward by default and usually Hemmings and Stewart were able to capitalise on this.

Many of our goals came from individuals creating something out of nothing rather than sustained forward play. It's been refreshing to see McCann has a far more strategic attacking plan.

We really need to get McCann tied up soon. I've been very impressed with what he's done so far.

But if your high number of draws is down to you to rescuing points late in the game instead of getting beat the surely those draws are a good thing.

Those draws kept us out of relegation trouble. We had Stewart and Hemmings but our team simply wasn't good enough overall to win more games.

Snatching the late equaliser was better than losing yes. However with the attacking talent we had we should have been winning more of those games.

I think Hartley sacrificed the defensive side of things to get the best out of Hemmings and Stewart. We simply weren't a good enough team overall to win regularly. Occasionally we clicked and rolled a team over but more often than not we struggled.
