A New Keeper for Next Season

Cerny is under contract and happy enough so I think it'd be difficult.

The only out of contract options from this league are Alexander, Mannus, Samson (no need to discuss that one) and both Hamilton goalkeepers - Woods and Matthews (on loan from Norwich) My preference from that lot would be Mannus (assuming 39 year old Alexander has declined) who I think is still up to a good standard and I've always thought Woods looks fairly solid in TV games and against us but he's been dropped recently so don't know if I've just seen the best side of him.

Jamie MacDonald is under contract for another year but has apparently expressed some discontent about his traveling arrangements and was looking for a way out last year. They apparently wanted a fair bit of money from Rangers for him in January though so with him being their only 'keeper, I'm not sure they'll let him go to a league rival. There's also maybe Fon Williams from Inverness (injured last night) if there's maybe a relegation clause of some sort but I think he's vastly over rated and actually makes a lot of mistakes that lead to goals.

Looking down the leagues, there is no one that seems really obvious that I think would be ready. Alan Martin, Dumbarton, has had a great season and was once touted as a future international prospect at Leeds but at 28, he's maybe not the sort of profile we'd be looking for. Rogers, on loan at Falkirk from Aberdeen, is always touted as an option due to some big save heroics on TV but he's been fairly inconsistent at that level for a couple of seasons now and actually been dropped now. I don't know much about the 'keeper that St Mirren signed, Billy O'Brien on loan from Man City, before the game against us but he's apparently shown a bit of potential and looking for a contract this summer - possible number 2 option. There are also a couple of young guys at League One level, Ross Stewart (Albion Rovers) an Rohan Ferguson (Airdrie), who look promising and may be on our radar but certainly not as first choice.

Looking further afield to England, there are loads of out of contract 'keepers kicking about at every level. You can see loads here (just taken the Championship there but you can change it easily) and way too many to analyse individually. The one name that sticks out through the leagues there is Jon McLaughlin, 29, who is leaving Burton Albion. He's a tall vastly experienced 'keeper through the English leagues and was almost ever presence in the Championship this season. I don't think it's likely but he's from Edinburgh so if he was thinking about a move back north, he'd likely be a brilliant signing for someone at this level.

Maybe I'm wrong no Harry but I thought I read Mannus had signed on again at saints

Been offered a contract and Wright was out in the press last week saying he was confident he would sign it (as he did with Swanson) but he's not actually committed yet. There was a rumour a wee while back that he was wanting to be first choice somewhere and that he'd spoken to both ourselves and Motherwell so I wouldn't be surprised if he were to sign for us.

Are we sure Bain is definitely leaving?

Dare I suggest his desire to leave was fuelled by the then-occupant of the manager's chair?

Given his drastic change in form and body language I think that's the obvious conclusion, doesn't take a genius to figure out that the respect was gone.

Unless we get a relatively decent offer in for Scott and get some proven experience in I'd rather we kept him on for another season. Letting Greg go for ~500k didn't seem horrendous but if we ended up relegated we would've ended up hugely out of pocket. Unless Bain goes through another episode of loss of form he'll be vital in staying up again
