Dundee Boss Heaps Praise On New Boy Kostadin Gadzhalov

Bulgarian Kostadin Gadzhalov will be handed his Dundee debut against Motherwell at Dens Park.

The 25-year-old signed up last week. However, a lack of international clearance meant he was not considered for the draw against Ross County on Sunday. All the necessary paperwork has been completed now.

And with stalwart James McPake out for at least two weeks with a cracked rib, the former U/21 international will be handed a place in the middle of the Dark Blues’ rearguard. And manager Paul Hartley admits he’s been impressed so far by what he’s seen of his new man.

“He’s looked good. He played in a game the other day and looked really composed and strong. He’s a good footballer and is in my thoughts for Motherwell,†he said.

“He’s been with us for the last two or three weeks training and he’s looked the part. He is really strong defensively but he can use the ball also. And it’s important he can use the ball in terms of the way we want to play.â€

Gadzhalov could be key to ending the run of eight games without a Premiership win and his manager has targeted a clean sheet against Motherwell. That’s something his side haven’t managed since the victory over Hamilton Accies towards the end of October.

“We were really good for the first 10 games of the season but it’s been a problem since and some of the goals we’ve lost have not been good,†Paul commented. “We don’t blame the back four and the goalkeeper and we’ve really got to defend better as a team. We are defending well at times but then we seem to lose our concentration a bit. We’ve got to focus and concentrate for the entire 90 minutes of the match.â€

Dundee would like to do more business in this transfer window — but the manager admits the future of some of his fringe players will determine what’s done.

“We would like more in but it depends on one or two leaving. There has been some interest in one or two of them.â€

It’s understood former Dens boss Jim Duffy was keen to take utility man Iain Davidson to Morton. However, right now that’s a deal that looks unlikely.
