Haber Interview Post Derby

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd share this as think its a very interesting read. Perhaps puts to bed the questioning of a few things about Marcus including his commitment and professionalism. Really impressed with what he had to say.

MARCUS HABER insists he DOES still have a future at Dundee.

The Canadian striker was the Dens Park side’s top goalscorer last term.

Marcus Haber

But before Wednesday night’s Betfred Cup win over Dundee United, he had failed to start a game this season as boss Neil McCann went with new striker Sofien Moussa instead.

Haber had made just one appearance — off the bench in a cup clash with Cowdenbeath — and had also travelled to play with the club’s Under-20s.

But a knee injury picked up by Moussa in last week’s defeat to Ross County saw Haber given his chance against United.

Picking his words carefully to every answer, Haber said: “If I am called to play I will be ready and this is an opportunity for myself.

“Moussa had done a job since he came in to the club and it is unfortunate he has got injured, but these things happen.

“I’ve remained focused and fit and waited for my opportunity.

“Did I have a point to prove? I just go into every match the same.

“Whenever my number is called I will always make sure I am ready.

“What the gaffer says to me in-house and on the training ground is the only important thing. I am just trying to work hard and to contribute to the team.

“Do I have a future at Dundee? Of course. Nothing has changed on my end. I have a contract for another two years. I am here to work and perform.

“It is not about me. It is about the team and I am just looking to do my job like the rest of the players.

“Whoever is first-choice striker is down to the gaffer. I am just trying my best every day to give him a dilemma.

“Competition for places is healthy and I’m sure everybody would agree with that. I am just trying to do my bit.

“Has the manager previously questioned my work-rate? You can ask him those questions.

“Did my performance against United give him a dilemma? You can ask him.

“Did I train with the Under-20s? You will need to ask the manager.

“I am not going to comment on what is or what is not happening in training.”

Haber hopes to keep up his form in the weekend clash at Hamilton.

He said: “I think I did OK against United. My team-mates found me and gave me some good support.

“It also helped having Faissal El Bakhtoaui running off me. He showed his pace and quality.

“The big man and small man partnership really worked in the derby. We had worked on that all week and it came off well on the pitch.

“We will be looking to take the momentum from the derby win into the league. Every time you are put into the starting line-up you want to perform, regardless of what has happened before.

“Most importantly, I want to perform for the team and to do my job.”

Manager McCann insists he will face a selection headache if Haber keeps up the level of performance he showed against the Arabs.

He said: “Marcus has found himself out of the line-up, sometimes out of the squad.

“But that was the guy I know he can be. He was almost unplayable. That’s why I got frustrated with him at times.

“If he can give us that kind of performance and threat, he gives me a huge problem

Neil McCann

“He proved to everyone just how good he is and proved to himself how effective he can be when he wants it.

“Every player, generally, is a top player in the Premiership because they have something, so if you show attitude, that ability comes to the fore.

“If he’s in that mindset, he can cause teams trouble.”

Dundee were paired with Celtic in the quarter-finals.

Haber said: “Celtic at home is a tough match, but the atmosphere will be great and we will be up for it.

“We will be prepared. We know Celtic are a great team and we need to respect them, but we are confident we can put in a good performance.

“I think we did OK against them last season.

“We caused them problems at home and also came close against them at Celtic Park.

“We will be up for that task when it comes along.”
