Question or Suggestion Around Scott Bain & Penalties?

This is not intended to be a Topic on the merits (or otherwise) of Scott's General Goal Keeping Abilities.

Just around his ability to ever save a penalty. Ken that sounds harsh but let's try and be honest aboot it.

Saving penalties is hard enough for any keeper. But I think it's fair to say, it is definitely no SB's strength.

Maybe practice makes perfect (no experience in that area) We all know it's in the penalty taker's favour.

Watching some keepers "crazy antics" used, to put penalty takers off on Youtube, are daft But they work.

I see SB as one of the quieter & less demonstrative kind o' guy,but I wonder whit effect it might have, if he

decided feck it, give it a shot. And went really mental in goal leading up to the penalty take. Worth trying?

Were you a keeper, would you try it? EH WID !! Worst that can happen is eh might look a bit o' a clown

That's no' something that wid worry me. I might even turn oot to be a Hero. Check out You-Tube yourself.

My 20 year old son is a goalie...he's got quite a good record at saving pens(including 3 in a cup final) I've asked him before what he does at penalties..he says he just picks a side and dives...bains problem is he just stands still then falls over as the ball hits the next...just pick a side more often than not you'll go the right way.

Unless you are ultra-skilled, or open to messages from above, or other spritual places, can hypnotise, or psyche oot & pit fear into the opposition ...

It's probably better tae act on the first suggestion and joogle aboot, waving yir erms on the goal line. And act totally daft. while he's trying to focus :excited:

As others have said Bain does not actually dive-he kind of falls down.

He also moves to quickly letting the taker see which way he is going to fall.

He should pick a side and ,make a full length dive that way-reckon he would save about 15% doing that-basically he is a good shot stopper so if he has dived the right way he would save some.

I'm hoping Bain would take a look at possible penalty takers during the week that he could come up against and know roughly which side they pick. More often that not penalty takers choose the same kind of penalty. O'dea for example - hard down the middle.

I'm maybe doing him a disservice, but Bain doesn't look like he does this at all.

I know Craig changed his sides with his two pens, so maybe doesn't have a preferred spot. However neither were bulleted home. I honestly reckon if that's how Craig takes all his pens and Bain knew that, he'd have been better waiting and seeing what happened. The first was within saving distance for a keeper with good reflexes (which Bain has) - the second maybe not.

I'm maybe being unkind with that assessment, but he has to try something different, because his ratio of saving pens really couldn't be any worse.
