Scott Bain: Will He Sign an Extension?

Recommended Posts

I remember reading in the Evening Telegraph Scott Bain saying he hadn't been approached by McCann regarding signing an extension to his contract (Which runs out next year).

Judging by his statements when Hartley was manager, I don't think he was even prepared to speak about signing and would have been off at the end of the season. He seems to be enjoying his football again at Dens which is good for the club, but I am now wondering if he has since changed his mind and would discuss signing a new contract if he was approached by McCann?

I know that Celtics manager was bigging him up in the papers, and said papers were saying that he could be a replacement for de Vries, but I have since read that Rodgers and Celtic are saying that de Vries as another year left on his contract after the end of the season and they aren't willing to let him go.

Would Bain go to Celtic knowing that he would be third choice just for the money, or would he find another club that would make him their number 1 or stay with Dundee knowing that he will still be playing each week and a shot at a Scotland cap?

He told Hartley that he wasn't willing to discuss a new deal so that shut down any talks before they started.

At the end of last season he said he was enjoying his football again under McCann. If McCann has not brought up the subject at all that would suggest he's happy to let Bain leave and to bring in his own number one next summer.

Could see him going to Celtic as a deputy but not a number 3. I imagine a move to Hearts appeals to him.

He is too good a goal keeper to sit on a bench and waste. Problem is, many players end up at Celtic and Rangers and are never heard of again until the sign for another club doing nothing but bench warm.

Pretty sure he'll be away. He can maybe get a deal at a League One side down south on triple his wages and he might see that as his one chance of a move. He's at an age which us probably critical in determining how much money he'll make out of football.

I've been pretty critical of him recently but he's put in two top performances recently so hopefully he continues that. The distribution thing is what could make him as a 'keeper and earn him a surprise move to Celtic if he buys into what McCann is doing IMO.
