Steve Clarke

Recommended Posts

A mere two weeks after Clarke took over at Rugby Park and Killie player Greg Taylor is on Sportscene enthusiastically raving about the new coach's impact:

"The gaffer's got us really well drilled. He's been brilliant for us on the training park. You can definitely see in the last two games there is progress there."

I don't think I've ever heard a Dundee player say that about a manager at Dens.

It was interesting to see the Killie players' reaction to the Griffiths goal. They were visibly furious to concede what was a brilliant goal at the home of the champions. When we concede a goal there's just a resigned shrug of the shoulders, a slump to the turf and a look around to see who else can be blamed.

Fair play to Killie on making such a fantastic appointment. They won't be in the bottom two for long.

I liked Steve Clarke as both a player & coach at my 'English club' of 60+ years, but wondered if he was someone like Archie Knox, who's better in the assistant role to one of the big managers. His comments in his press meeting, ie that "I didn't get the recognition I deserved" at both West Brom & Reading, concern me though, sounded a bit too close to Kenny Sheils style :o....but to be serious, I'm always a bit suspicious of someone blowing their own trumpet, and surprised to hear that from Clarke.

I had another look at Griffiths goal, and honestly don't see any different kind of reaction from the Killie defenders than you'd see anywhere else....the two in the middle were blaming each other & the player further over just raised his arms to shoulder height & dropped them as he turned away.

We'll get a good look at them in a couple of weeks, but one observation I'd add is that it's easy to make quick improvements to something that was an absolute shambles, and that's what some veteran Killie fans told me they were under McCulloch.....eg, defending in two lines of 4.

.....and yes, I do appreciate that, in saying that, them now being above us on goal diff doesn't make us look too clever at the moment :)

Kilmarnock signed Youssef Mulumbu today.

A signing I hope turns out to be as influential as Eric Djemba-Djemba’s impact at St Mirren.

On paper that's a brilliant signing. Part of me thinks there must be something seriously wrong with him which is why no English teams have taken a punt on him!
