Maximising Revenue

During the Celtic pricing saga we were repeatedly told that the club would always make decisions based on what would maximise income. I personally thought that was short sighted but I could  understand the logic.

But if that's their policy I don't understand the rationale behind hosing Killie fans in the main stand next week so service personnel and their families can get the Shankly.

Killie fans are on a total high at the minute. They took 1300 to Hearts and, while Murrayfield is obviously a novelty, it was also a Sunday game. We're sticking them in a section that holds less than that for a Saturday 3pm kick off, with a poor view, poor facilities and we're charging them £24, £4 more than it is for us to get into Rugby Park, for the pleasure.

Their fans are up in arms about this and a good few won't be coming who would otherwise have been. I would be raging if the tables were turned.

How many members of the armed forces are we expecting to turn up? Surely they could be accommodated in Sections A, B and C of the stand, or in the part of the ground of their choice. I don't disagree with certain sections of the community being given free tickets both in recognition of what they do and in the hope it entices new supporters but surely that has to be balanced by ensuring paying customers aren't shafted as a result.

Really struggling to get my head round this decision.

Good post - totally agree

Are we definitely putting the killie fans in the main stand?

There fans having to buy tickets in advance is just bizarre. £24 a ticket is ridiculous when you see it in writing. £31 if you can't make it to their club shop in advance. It's a relegation battle after all not a top of the table clash. Can understand why people won't be going. I'd certainly not be going if it was the other way round.

No problem with giving out free tickets but just let them sit where they want. The home end is not going to be anywhere near full even with the ticket giveaway.

Its the same with the family deals we do. Why can people not sit where they want for games like this. When I first started going to games my dad took me in the Derry with his mates. If he had had to sit with me in the front few rows of the Bobby Cox instead to be able to get a kids ticket, I'm pretty certain I would have been left at home.

'Any Under 12 ticket holders arriving without an adult will not be allowed entry to the stadium'.

I really can't see the rationale in denying younger fans entry to the ground in this way. I used to go to the grounds early for away games as a kid whilst the adults went to the pub. I'd think there must be some stupid H&S regulation at play here.

Killie won't bring near the full capacity of the Main Stand sections to Dens - nor would they if they were in the Shankly. 1400 to Murrayfield is a false figure down to novelty factor.

Looks to me the club have looked to give something to serving armed forces members (some of which will be Dundee fans, some Killie fans, some neutrals) and once again can't do right for doing wrong.

Kilmarnocks support is never big enough to justify the Shankly so I don't think they can have any grounds for complaint.

I'm sure if they had been given the Shankly then there could have been a cash gate on the day.

Also sure a lot of army guys and gals would have prefered to sit with their civvy pals elsewhere in the ground.

The lowest Kilmarnock support I've seen at Dens was several times bigger than Hamilton brought the other week and they were given the Shankly.

Given the high their fans are on since Clarke was appointed I certainly don't think it's impossible to believe they would bring somewhere around the four-figure mark. It's not just about about capacity, however, it's also about offering facilities commensurate for the £24 we charge away fans.

Tickets for troops is home fans only - https://www.ticketsfortroops.org.uk/search?q=dundee

Although i am a ST holder i was thinking of taking advantage of the forces tickets (since it includes ex) and bring some of the family that are irregular visitors to Dens, however nae chance im doing it to sit in the Shankly. Will just take my normal seat in the Derry and no bring anyone extra. Don't understand why they would single out the shankly for it

Lets not use a joke support like Hamilton as the bar - that's disingenuous.

If you were a serving Killie fan and could get free tickets for your family would you apply for the tickets for troops? I would.

I don't think Killie have ever brought 4 figures to Dens - they get 2-3k at home most weeks....
