Mark O'Hara

Noticing a lot of negative comments RE Mark O'Hara of late.

People have quickly forgotten he was our 2nd top scorer last season (no penalties either) and is the one midfielder we have on our books who can make good runs from deep and offer a physical presence in there.

His performances were such that he got U21 International recognition - this is a young player with potential who has already proven he's not out of place at our level.

He's certainly shown more than, for example, Craig Wighton, at this level....

Not good enough
Cant keep a player when his only attribute is being a danger from a set peice and the rest of his game is crap

I think he has pace, strength, and a goal threat. Play to those attributes and we'll have a good squad player.

He's not a winger or a playmaker, but I do struggle with where I feel he is best positioned. Almost tempted to think he'd be more suited to CH

It's clearly not his only attribute but fire on.

Would you keep Cammy Kerr? His best attribute of late has been losing men at set pieces.

Craig Wighton? - Played more games (although probably less or similar minutes granted) than O'Hara last season - less goals despite playing further up?

Lewis Spence? - Currently playing ahead of O'Hara - same age, approx. half the player.

Before anyone goes mental - I'd keep them all (although on the fence with Spence) - as I understand young players will need game time and opportunities to improve, but I get annoyed when people take the attitude that O'Hara isn't "one of our own" and compare him to players with far more experience.

Hateley all over.

It's not though is it - Hateley is a journeyman at the end of his career - O'Hara is a youngster at the start of his.

Completely different.

That's setting aside Hately was a threat taking set pieces while O'Haras a threat getting on the end of them :P

I think O'Hara is at his most dangerous when he's making late runs into the box, or attacking the back post when the ball is coming in from the left (Motherwell away twice, Rangers at home both spring to mind). I think as a box-to-box, Gav Rae type player he'll be a good player at this level, he just needs to impose himself a bit more on games and not drift in and out of it, you can get away with that a bit more when you're a winger or front man but not in CM where most games are won and lost. Would keep him because there's definitely potential there.
