Pitch

Anyone know what's up with our pitch? I know this time of year isn't great - heavy schedule, dodgy weather etc but Dens has always had a fine surface for as long as I can remember, even through the winter months. It's a right state at the moment and I actually think it had a big part in Jim Mcallister's fresh air swipe tonight. Seems to be since the new sprinkler system was fitted in summer it has cut up and went very patchy.

To be honest it's a bit of a myth these days that the pitch is one of the best in Scotland. Prior to admin 1 it was always the case that Dens was a great pitch. Maybe we don't have the same level of staff and equipment these days.

Still better than the dump though (although to be fair their pitch is below sea level apparently) ;)

I reckon the undersoil heating probably has quite a lot to do with it. The team have also been training on Dens the last few weeks, which will olso have taken it's toll on the surface.

Bang on.Although we've had undersoil heating for a few seasons it's unlikely we could have afforded to switch it on as much as now.Plus Hartley likes to train on it meaning it'll be on a lot more often.

We used to struggle for suitable training facilities in the winter, even when we had u/soil heating & had to train indoors due to the high costs of putting the heating on.

Again shows the need for a training pitch for our selves.

You've gotta weigh up the costs of a proper training facility against the cost of switching on the heating a few days a week over winter.Do we have any of the spare thousands it would take to set this up?.I would doubt so.Even hiring proper pitches would likely work out more expensive. There was a reluctance by the owners of these facilities to hire them out to Dundee anyway due to regular unpaid bills, even post Admin.(Don't know if it still exists).
