Looking forward to the game in Paisley on saturday, it looks like (barring any more injuries) Hartley will have some tough decisions to make in 3 key areas.

1 - Defence. Hopefully if Mcpake is ok for saturday he surely will start. This may be the easiest of his decisions as I feel that although the general consensus is that Davo isnt the most naturally gifted center half, he has without doubt not let anyone down the last few appearances and is playing on merit for me.

We have choices now though and if all 4 are fit, it will be interesting to see which way he goes. As someone mentioned last night, that game was taylor made for Davo as he was up against a big lump of a center forward and could simply play his "go and win it" style.

Then you have the full back position's. For me if Mcginn is back fit then he starts with Irvine back on the left. Although, I think he has to be more aware than in the last couple of games where he has been caught out.

My verdict  Mcginn - Davo - Mcpake - Irvine

* Just on a side note, I like the fact that we have 3 "battlers" in McPake, Davo and Irvine in the back 4. Gives us some much needed bite to the team IMO with all 3 willing to put their bodies on the line when it matters.

2 - Midfield. I could go on for hours but in short I think it almost picks itself apart from one BIG choice. Drop Jimmy Mac (who has played probably more than anyone this season) to bring Thomson back in (which is a given for me)

So if thomson is brought back in, and IMO Jimmy mac doesnt deserve to be dropped something has to give. For me Mcgowan is the first name on the team sheet in our midfield so he has to start. Out left, one choice ; Stewart without doubt. Right, well Harris had an off game last night but I think he does offer us some balance.

Its a nice problem to have for once, having players available and playing well enough that their is genuine competition. But something has to give, either a change in formation AGAIN or maybe someone being left unhappy. One way to accomodate all 3 and keep Harkins in the side would to be go narrow with Harris dropping out and Stewart moving up top. Something like what we played earlier in the seasona couple of times--

-----------Thomson------------

McGowan---------JMac

-----------Harkins----------

The combinations are endless. And like I said you could debate it for hours.

My Verdict

      Thomson Mcgowan

Harris                         Stewart      I have a gut feeling Jimmy Mac may be the one sacrificed. Although it wouldnt be my choice.

Finally!

3. Attack

Couple of options here, with either playing a straight 2 up top or one in behind as Harkins has been playing. Then we have IMO 4 players for 2 spots. Tank, Clarkson, Harkins, Wighton.

Starting with the "number 10" Harkins or wighton. Probably a no brainer for most. But I would like to see Craig given at least 30-40 minutes soon. However IMO the nature of the match on saturday may not be the best senario for this as Harkins experience is going to be needed.

So up top. A lot has been made over the past 12 hours of the Tank's work rate and link up play but lack of goals. And also of Clarkson's recent poor performances and lack of mobility. For me, for a game like Saturday I think we require the legs of the Tank. It has worked the last 2 games as we have scored 4 goals (albeit he hasnt scored, but been involved inking up with Harkins and Stewart nicely)

Verdict

Harkins

Tank

Sorry for the long winded post, too much time on my hands here!  ;)

Harsh on Jim perhaps, but I think Harkins has really taken a game in the last 2 matches and Harris gives natural width. Stewart and Mcgowan pick themselves and I'd be inclined to go with Thomson who was excellent at Aberdeen.
