Dundee are closing in on their third signing of the January transfer window.

The club are working around the clock to add two new faces to their squad before Saturday’s trip to St Mirren, with an offer to take Stephen McGinn on loan from Sheffield United tabled.

The Dark Blues must play the waiting game with McGinn. However, the club are confident the Blades will sanction the temporary switch of the midfield man prior to the visit to Paisley. Manager Paul Hartley admits he’s confident the club can secure some reinforcements.

“We are trying to get a couple in,†he said. “We will just have to wait and see what we can do.

“Maybe we can get someone in before the weekend.â€

Reflecting on the narrow victory over Kilmarnock at Dens, Paul can’t highlight enough how much a clean sheet means to his side. It was their first since the 2-0 home win over Hamilton back on October 25.

“It’s vital for us,†said Paul. “It’s something we have been working on every week in training but the clean sheets just haven’t been there in games. We played some good stuff and kept a clean sheet which we haven’t had for a while. That was one of the most pleasing things to come out of the match.

“We had some good opportunities to put the game to bed but we are happy with a 1-0 win against anybody.

“At 1-0 you are always worried you might concede but the players held out well.â€

The gaffer added: “We had a spell where we couldn’t win at home, now we seem to have found a way. And the three points puts us closer to the top six again. We are right in amongst it.â€

Not normally one to single out individuals, win, draw or lose, Paul was full of praise for his match-winner Greg Stewart.

“He is at the top of his game at the moment,†said Paul. “He’s full of confidence and playing well. Their right back had a right tough time against him. Every game he almost plays in a different position. Last night (Wednesday) he was on the right of a three but we have seen him on the left of a four, in behind and up top. He just gets about his business wherever he plays.

“Performances from him are just getting better and better.â€
