Festive Fixtures.

IMO the English structure their festive fixtures much better than we do.

The frequency and intensity of their fixtures over Xmas and NY is great for fans during a period when most people have spare time on their hands.

I would like to see the break abolished and our fixtures brought into line with South of the border.

I think managers & players were in favour of a winter break before it was implemented, and probably still are.

For the fans, though:

  • In order to accommodate it, we have 2 midweek games in December & 1 in January. It would surely be more sensible to play the midweek games much earlier in the season, when the weather's better & longer daylight, to encourage fans & their families to go along, and to make it easier to travel to away games.
  • There are also 7 games in December, a month when money is at its tightest, and the chances of attracting PATG fans limited.

When a winter break was proposed, it seemed an obvious point to re-work the league structure, so that post-break (& transfer window) coincided with the 'split' in the league. Start the season a bit earlier (this might also help our teams playing euro qualifiers, before the league starts), make the break a full month, and finish it earlier.
