59 isn't really that old now a days.

Sorry to hear that he has passed away... decent footballer back in the day.

It's a shame, but black footballers still have to put up with morons at football matches. You just have to look at what Mark Walters put up with at Rangers.

Interesting fact that I didn't know. Walter Tull was Rangers the first black player they had signed, but the guy died in the first world war before he had a chance to play for them.

Queens Park full back, Andrew Watson, captained Scotland to a 6-1 thumping of England in 1881.

He’s widely regarded as the first black, senior  association football player..

An individual that Scotland should be proud of..

Totally agree with you. The way black people were treated back then was deplorable and you sometimes wonder how many good Scottish/English athletes back then were not given a chance because of their gender or colour.

Racism isn't as bad as it was but as you say there's still a few morons, even at Dens. Everyone should be allowed the opportunity to play football if they wish, regardless of race or colour, without fear of racial abuse. It was something I grew up with, not just in football either. You couldn't say some of the things nowadays that were treated as normal in the 70's & 80's.

I was shocked to see footage recently of bananas being thrown at Walters at Tynecastle. Don't remember it making the papers at the time.

You must have been a sleep during that time... I remember nothing but this being in the back of every paper at that point.

Disgusting, thought it did help change a lot of things to help get rid of racism in the game in Scotland.
