That question of where do we want to be, is very rarely asked. Seems to me the only yardstick we use is the size of our support, so perhaps 5th is the answer. That should also imply that we regularly reach the quarter finals of both cup competitions.

Maybe not asked but NM states  it often. Last time was yesterday .

Totally agree DD. I think our board did very well under the circumstances they were faced with.  NM  is correct in his view point of Celtic. They just can't play a fair and decent game if they tired. Wait to the last minute to pay the price we told them weeks ago. That way they know we can't sign our preferred options  which may weaken us for the next time we play them. Total pr**ks

A bit harsh, they want to spend the least they can on players. We've had to let players go for less than we wanted in the past so no harm to them trying to get him for less than we want. They do sort of hold the whip hand if the player wants away so why not try and make the most of it, I'd expect us to do the same.

I don't think Celtic really worry about the team we've got as we haven't beaten them in years. It's more likely the valuation we put on JH was ticking in their throats and they just could't bring themselves to pay it until 11.59. They see us aa a mickey mouse club and until we are in a position to be able to knock back offers fro players, that won't change.

Pretty much this I reckon, United got big bucks because of their reputation of developing players and holding out for the big bucks, us (and most Scottish clubs) haven't been anywhere nearly as good at this, hopefully we can change others perceptions of us with deals like Hendry. Its crap that it dragged on as long as it did but if it makes clubs realise we'll stick to our guns then maybe worth it in the long run.

A dose of realism is now and again is good for we fans.

To some extent the natural order of things has been reestablished in Scottish football, with the big population citiy teams Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen getting stronger.

Its really difficult for the likes of us, Motherwell, Partick and Killie to build strong sides year on year.

We find some good players and the vultures gather round and obviously its in the players interests to move on for bigger money.

When we get on a managers back, we should remember how difficult their job can be at times.

Perhaps consolidation in the Premier and the latter stages of the cups is a yardstick for us.
