Scottish Football In General

Recommended Posts

After watching MOTD the football in the EPL is at a different level. Every team seems to have a player who can score from some unbelievable positions. Ours just seem to blast the ball and hope for the  best. Crossing seems to be a heck of a lot better as well. Or is it just the coverage that makes the games look better?

English football is obviously better, but if you have a £100000 car against a £1000 car, its obvious which one will be better.

The percentage of English games that Ive watched that have been absolute turgid sh**e is incredibly high, so high in fact that Ive stopped watching most games, cant remember the last one I watched, I also stopped watching MOTD.

Highlights can make anything look good. Our football isnt great, but theres terrible games everywhere, and we need to stop comparing ourselves with a business product based on 100x more money.

I have been to  see two league  1 games in England this  season Division 3 it was called before the restructure. Wigan vs Portsmouth and Blackpool vs Portsmouth.

I would say the standard is probably SPL level if you take away Celtic, the first game was a 1-1 draw and the second one a cracking end to end game which finished 3-2 to Pompey.

As i say standard similar but a major difference was the physical side of the game,  all the teams were very strong all over the park , none of the teams i saw would get bullied in the SPL and i would  say if they were in our division they would cope no problem and a bit more, just my opionion though.

English football is IMO overrated as f**k

clubs only there to serve tourists paying mega bucks to watch a load of absolute units kick lumps out of each other. Honestly a lot of the lower end EPL and championship is absolutely brutal

forget as well that England has way more people, with Wales, NI and Eire counted as well as their own leagues are poorly attended. Also, SPFL attendences bar Dundee have all increased, with the league also attracting good coaches.

About time Scots were less cynical about our football and be positive with some technical youngsters coming through.

Or mibbe am just a yung romantic being a happy clapper?

The razzmatazz that Sky has introduced that surrounds the game down there adds a fair bit to the mix, making things seem better than they might be.  That said, the quality is significantly better - as you would expect given the salary differential.

I'm stuck with Bundesliga and Eurodivise games - both have none of the glitz that exists in England,  but if you look at the actual quality the Bundesliga isn't far behind England whilst the Eurodivise is poor IMO.

The 12 team league does not encourage managers to play attacking football and give young players game time.

The fear of relegation and financial disaster is a real concern for 4 or 5 clubs every season.

Its a flawed model IMO.

The Money Differential & the general league set-up (as pointed out above) will definitely affect the quality of the product on display. If your Club/ Team, is in a healthy, competive/safe position, there might be something to be said for the 12 Club Set-up (excitement of the split/play-offs etc)

But when, at the start of the season, you start wondering, who will be in the Bottom Six with you, FEAR becomes the more dominant/negative  factor ....And this sadly can carry through for a whole season until the last game. As well as affecting fans, it must affect clubs/manager/ players.

According to the Companies House website Newcastle United FC latest annual accounts for the year ended 31st May 2016 showed that their income from gate receipts was £125 Million and they were relegated at the end of that season.

Stated in the accounts was that there was a £129 loan  loan from MASH  who I believe is Mike Asley’s Company and there no interest payable on the loan during that financial year.

Sorry I have made a mistake.

The turnover was £125,755,000 ( £125.755 Million) and the Matchday income for the year was £24,699,000 (£24.699 Million).

Matchday income consists of Season and Matchday tickets and Corporate hospitality.

The figures are still “mind blowing” compared to our total annual income at Dens.

Included in the accounts was that there was a term loan from Mr MJW Ashley of £129.0 Million and it continues to be interest free.
