Absolutely Astonishing News

In The Courier today -

'Former Rangers chairman appointed to investigate Dundee V&A costs

A former chairman of Rangers Football Club has been appointed to investigate the rocketing costs of the V&A at Dundee.

Councillors backed the selection of businessman John McClelland to investigate the causes behind the hugely inflated price tag of the project, which it recently emerged would now cost more than £80 million.'

Seriously? A man that ran a football club into the ground, and eventual liquidation, whilst overspending at an unsustainable level is going to investigate overspending on the V&A project?

Absolutely incredible.

Was a bit taken aback when I read this today too but not sure how responsible McClelland was in Rangers downfall or know enough to simply come to the conclusion that because he's been Rangers chairman in the last 20 years that he therefore must be useless.

I'm sure one of our resident Rangers financial boardroom experts on here can give more insight :)

"Mr McClelland stated;

'It was never going to be able to come in for anything less than £80 million. Whoever said it would is a numpty. The costs aren't *skyrocketing* the costs are what any sane person would expect in this day and age for such a modern building. Thanks for my consultancy fee, which will of course add to those costs-Cheers!'

Mr V&A could not be reached for comment."

I think that McClelland resigned as chairman of Rangers in 2004.

This time I hope that this time John McClelland is allowed to investigate fully the rocketing costs at the V & A and not like the last "so-called" investigation at Kingspark School where the ruling group of Dundee City councillors told the person who was investing only what they wanted investigated.

He was not allowed to investigate everything " warts and all"!

Aye he was Chairman till 2004 then took a back seat, McClelland resigned his position as a Non Exec Director in Oct 2011 along with John Greig.................. "because they knew that they were being excluded and marginalised at the same time as they had great concerns for the governance of Rangers FC and were deeply suspicious of Mr Craig Whyte before and after his acquisition of the majority shareholding from MIHL. Other than resignation there was no evidence that either of these directors took any steps with any person or authority to do anything about what they knew was happening....................which was a failure of their duties.
