Standard of the Scottish Game

I've said it numerous times, it's appalling. There is blame to be laid from grassroots right through to the terraces. Kids aren't taught to play football, they're taught safety first. 'Professional' footballers who work with the ball 6 days out of 7 get so nervous at the shouts from the stand, they don't even attempt to play football anymore.

We've turned into a country of kick and chasers who, for the most part, applaud absolute dirge technical ability simply because the 'player' runs about a lot and chases the long hoof from that player who is too scared to attempt a proper pass.

While I agree it is poor, is the standard any better in other countries that have our population (Denmark, Finland, Slovakia, Norway and Ireland)? I imagine it's probably just as bad.

Is that where we are at as regards who we're comparing ourselves to, Cobra?

Well HK, between WWII and the 1980s the whole of eastern Europe was one backward country (USSR) meaning there wasn't much competition from that part of the continent, football hadn't been commercialised so unfashionable minnows like Dundee and Forest could assemble great teams and rival much bigger clubs, players had no power when it came to their contracts and fans flocked to games because there was nothing else to do.

Now everything has changed so yes unfortunately we're just a small country of 5m people struggling to compete. You look at the Dutch. They were renowned for being innovative and producing great player and now their league and national team are really poor so it's going to be incredibly difficult for Scotland no matter what we do.

Compared to the days of Van Basten, Ronaldo, Bergkamp and Romario I would say that yes Dutch football is relatively poor these days.

Spurs signed Vincent Janssen after he tore up the Dutch league and he was hopeless in England because there is such a huge gulf in quality.

Basically I've lost interest in International Football ....Certainly Scottish Intenational Football.

If I go back many years, when a Scottish Game against any other Club meant a great deal to me, now it seems, I am happy to let it pass me by.  The so called smaller teams of that time, have made it their busines to improve their game ... And in the main have succeeded. Scotland has not.

There would have been plenty of duds going about back then, too.

To label a whole league poor on the back of one striker is quite something, especially considering their coefficient compared to ourselves.
