We may be relatively financially stable compared to our past but have still racked up over a million quid in losses from promotion until May last year.

We may have a lot of good players but have been in a relegation battle 2 seasons in a row with a top 6 budget.

Think just the pressure of the threat of relegation/play offs have made it a very nervy couple of seasons after the high of relegating United the season before that and finishing top 6 the season before that. The efforts in the cups are pathetic as always also which doesn't help any feel good factor.

We've been in much worse times historically but aren't really doing anything on the park to create a feel good factor the last two seasons other than staying in the division by the skin of our teeth and the odd good result here and there over a season.

It may be very simple .... Maybe it's the Crappy 12 Club League Set-Up,

Where half the clubs (inc us) go through a season...in fear of relegation.

It not only removes this "feel-good-factor"  it's stressful and wearing !!

Agree with the above posts. Our home form hasn’t been good enough over the last couple of seasons and the pricing just isn’t affordable for many. I wouldn’t even be surprised that if we were to get relegated we may even get more fans through the gate as would surely win more home games! BTW not for one minute am I hoping for relegation but basically saying that if we start to win more games at Dens then hopefully more fans will start going again DDYB

I think we've just had our expectations raised, partly by our own hopes and partly fuelled by talk from the club that some have latched onto, this 'top 6' stuff gets bandies about but its a red herring as there are a number of clubs in the SPL all having to pretty much say the same stuff to keep us stand monkeys sweet. Our p*ss poor home form does make it hard to get enthusiastic at Dens though and this probably does have a big psychological affect on the stands though so if you only do the home games it must be hard.

I've enjoyed this season, think some of the football we have played has been good, seeing younger players been given a chance is great to see. However, it is a result business and we are not consistent enough and have had poor results. As soon as we are safe then we can all relax. With us getting top6 in our first season back, that did raise the bar and the league has been tougher since. In an ideal world, you want St Mirren and Livi coming up, with County and Hamilton/Partick going down, makes next seasons league a bit easier as you with think Livi would struggle.

Our first season back in the top league there was a buzz about the club. Ticket pricing was decent and the Derry had a good atmosphere and in turn the stadium did. Finished 6th and fans expected us to kick on.

Second year prices went up which saw attendances inevitably go down slightly. The Derry was over policed after threats of closure and I think that has a had a big factor on the atmosphere ever since. We had better individual players than season 1 but maybe not a better team overall. There were some memorable performances in that season but 8th place was a really poor finish for a team that had a front 3 of Hemmings, Stewart and Harkins.

Third year is where the doom and gloom really began IMO. Lost the front 3 I mentioned above and didn't really replace them. It was obvious we were going to struggle and predictably we did. Some really horrendous performances, especially at home, which turned the support against Hartley. That created the negative atmosphere at most home games.

This year we got off to a terrible start which did nothing but fuel the same negativity. It's the performances at home against the teams around us that have done the damage. Against these teams the fans rightly expect the team to attack at pace, create plenty chances and ultimately win. Most fans aren't going to fall for the myth that you're automatically playing entertaining football if you pass it about at the back.

If we start winning more of our home games then more positivity will return.

Which just goes to show how wide the opinions can be. I need to go back to the Kernaghan tenure to find a season I've enjoyed less than this one. Poor atmosphere in the ground every week, two good players in the squad and one's been sold, slow, slow slow-slow-slow football, no attacking threat, crap goals conceded, barely any good goals scored by us at Dens since O'Hara against Rangers and in truth, not one exciting player in the entire squad (Kamara is great, but not in a Charnley/Harkins/Stewart kind of way).

I know this is a doom and gloom post :dunce: but there's O'Hara's winner against Rangers, the two goals in the derby win and beyond that I am honestly struggling to find much in the way of genuine excitement that's happened at Dens all season. The wins have been workmanlike (and welcome) and the defeats have been utter garbage. Even when we've dominated games and not won, we never looked like a good team. And I think that in the league the only 90 minutes we've put together at Dens were the wins against Partick and Rangers.

I've commented before that maybe those who go away from home much more regularly than i do (I did all the league cup games and Saints at McD and that's it) have a different view on the season (great performances at Aberdeen and Thistle with no points, and last gasp wins at Partick and Hamilton) but as someone who only really does home games these days, it hasn't been much fun to be honest. Not for me anyway.

Hi BB. I go to almost every home and away game and I concur. This season has been crap...
