Glen Kamara

Kamara Is very good but limited player, breaks up attacks but gets a nose bleed when he gets to the opposition box.

Big fees for him and Caulker and weeding out the deadwood could enable us to sort out the problem areas in the squad.

If it's going to happen, let's get it done quickly in order that McCann can get in his replacements for a full pre season.

GK came to us to do a job, put himself in the shop window and in doing so, further his own career.  The lad has done both and as some have said above has been a class act in the process.  If we can get him to sign a year extension to his existing contract, all well and good but the chances are that there will now be other clubs after him.  Reading FC were also rumoured to be interested earlier in the season.  A young, quality player who still dreams of playing at the highest level means that if bids come in he will be offski.  Nothing more certain and with best wishes from me anyway.  What's happened with Hendry and now potentially GK, added to the signing of Caulker will hopefully alert other young talented players that we are worth a shot.

Hopefully NM has some more JH/GK's lined up in the summer.

Why has our value for the best players in our team touting at between 1 - 1.5m.

any team thinking about prizing our best player at the age he is, probably getting our player and young player of the year, we should be looking at 2m+ with a sell on clause.

The only worry is that he has a year left, but other than that he ‘seems’ happy at the club. He’s putting in great performances and keeps showing the right desire to play despite the hustle and bustle of Scottish football.

No club is ever going to pay dundee 2m+ for a player with a year left on contract. The Glasgow clubs are never going to do it and English clubs would be reluctant to pay that for a player unproven at that level.

I can perhaps see it with Caulker if he can prove he is past his problems but think we would be very  lucky to get more a 1.5m unless GK signs a new contract.

Disagree CC33.Think we would be much better off trying to keep them and building season ticket sales in the hope that we will deliver a top six result next season, provided of course that we beat Hamilton at Dens.

Agreed.

The recent bid for Caulker looks like excellent value imo. Not sure we'll get that again. Our success in keeping players when a reasonable bid comes in is not good (ref: Hendry) and wouldn't expect it to be with the likes of Hibs selling 14,000 season tickets in April.

If we get offered between £1.5m to £2m for Caulker we will accept.
If we get offered £1m or more for Kamara then we will accept also.

Ideally like to keep them but couldn't blame the club or player from moving on.

Its great money for us and lets be honest we`ve been a relegation threatened side with them in the team (more so Kamara) not that im saying he`s a bad player but I think the loss of the likes of Hemmings and Stewart will have hurt us more than losing Kamara

Don't have an issue with this as we were always a shop window as an earlier poster noted.

However, the positive is that we are seeing more realistic valuations put on our players and the more that come here as a stepping stone to bigger things,  it will hopefully make us more attractive to similar minded players / agents in future.

This simply shows how important it is to have a robust scouting system to replace those that will ultimately move on.

Agree loss of Hemmings and Stewart was more of a blow to the team. I think in this case what's best for the player is aligned with what's best for our club, as far as Caulker is concerned. He is runoured to have a significant percentage of the fee coming his way so why would he settle for a percentage of £1.5m and a move to a championship side down south. If he plays well next year in a settled Dee side with a manager who has learnt a lot he should be worth a lot more, and it's the percentage of the deal that's the diver for him, I imagine rather than the prospect of earning £5k a week in the championship. Average wages in the EPL are £50k a week so I'm hoping that he is thinking that this time at Dundee can help sort out his life and sort out a move back into the EPL. Kamara isn't the complete player yet. He might benefit from some coaching to sort out his shot shy approach, and he should be working on a better move too, IMO.

Aye like others have said he freezes near opposition goal and sometimes looks to be afraid trying an ambitious pass to hurt opposition.
There is times when a centre mid must take a risk with a pass (I mean a risk in opposition area)

Agree. wonder why he doesn't do it? It's in his interests that he adds these skills to his game.

We just have to keep the supply line of signings going. And now we have youngsters who look good enough to step in too.

But we'll do well to ever have a settled, successful team in this day and age. A decent player will be on the move after a good season or so. Still, the cash will pour in with any luck! Best we can hope for. What Marr was on about all those years ago.

The players who stay with us will be of a certain standard, and so it is repeated up and down the football chain. It annoys me when a Hibs, say, manage to punch above their weight. About time McGinn moved on!
