The island of Islay in accordance with the whole of the West Coast of Scotland have been experiencing hot sunny weather for most of the past week with these hot conditions set to continue for at least another couple of days. This warm sunny weather is nothing new at this time of year when the Atlantic high pressure blocks the rain bearing fronts from hitting the West of Scotland.

Unfortunately the warm easterly airstream over Islay results in cool misty and cloudy weather over the East of Scotland including the Dundee area where the Haar comes in every evening and is slow to clear the next morning.

This hot sunny weather over Islay gives me a dilemma. Should I remain living in Islay as my wife would like to do or should I return to live in Dundee and suffer the East Coast haar which curtails my sunbathing opportunities.

i of course have another dilemma.

We have the most stunning views from the front windows of our house on Islay which can never be replicated in Dundee.

Typical, the first year I don't come over for the Feis Ile festival you get good weather, the last few years it's been rainy, windy or a combination of both.

Get a house with a good view from the kitchen window for the wife, Islay :D

Hi Harold,

From memory I thought it was you who had come over to the Feis Ile on previous years.

Since we arrived back on Islay a fortnight ago today there has only been rain on one day. Despite the long cold and wet winter it is only a matter of time before the distillery managers start complaining about being short of water and starting their ‘silent season’ earlier than planned.

Hot sunny weather is no good for the hordes visiting the distillery open days as they will be looking like lobsters by the end of the day.

Yesterday evening we noticed a number of people walking past our house who had been at the Bruichladdich Distillery open day that were suffering from sunburn.

The local pharmacist will be sold out of After Sun thanks to the current heatwave.

Hi Gnasher,

I got my camera out this afternoon and took photographs using my iPad. I tried to download them onto this topic but the website stated that I was using more than 2mb.

I have sent a request to the Contact page asking for an email address to send them to and hopefully one of the moderators can download my photographs onto this topic.

Hi BCram,

You must sitting in a very sheltered spot out of the cold east wind. The temperature at the met office site at Islay Airport at 19.00 (7pm) was 18.9C and at Leuchars ( the closest met office site to Dundee) at 19.00 (7pm) it was 11.9C.

At 9.15pm the windows in our house are still open as it is still warm outside.

I have received details of a website to use from John so hopefully this will work. http://picresize.com/edit

and the view from the front of our house will be shown.

The picture shown is across Lochindaal with Bowmore in the background.

You have to edit it, then download it and upload it to the forum :)
