Where Should Ph Be Looking ....... To Build Up Next Season's Squad ?

If we can put aside today's performance, we can take some consolation in the fact, we are more than holding our own in the Premiership Division ...... at least as this time.

So,even allowing, for injuries, and the question possibly over today's PH's tactics, he has to be given credit for the steady progress we have made this season (imo).  Some performances have not been great, but we have picked up points.

Both Bain and Stewart, notably, (from Alloa and Cowdenbeath) are proving, as each week goes by, to be outstanding PH signings.   And it appears to me, on that basis alone, that the main focus for DFC future signings should be, on the up and coming young talent, from these lower Scottish Divisions. Not every signing made from these lower divisions will turn out to be of the calibre of the two above, but if potential prospects are researched properly, who knows what we will find.

I am not convinced the present approach of signing players coming from the continent, or even England for that matter, is the way for our club to go ......... And older players, coming to us with past reputations of glory (and injuries) are not for me.

(Although, I accept sometimes it can work out well)

I do not know what DFC's scouting system is like at all. But it does seem PH does have a good eye for a potential young Scottish players that shows promise, and if he has the right kind of scouting system, and support from his team around him, I believe, they are there to be found .....and possibly at a very little relative cost.........and maybe a rewarding return.

Ideally a proper, professional, youth development system, may well be the way to go .....if and when, it ever happens.

But for next season............Well, where should PH be looking, to build up a Professional Squad ?

Only Stewart and Bain are honestly of the class that could win cups IMO.

I realise we will never have a squad full of that quality in every position, but we need say 3 more of that quality across the park to consider doing anything serious.

Agree re the older players Gee. In recent times, as far as we are concerned, players who are at the back end of their careers have been a lot more miss than hit. I wouldn't give up on players from abroad but we can't fall into the trap of thinking that players from the continent are better than home grown players just because they are foreign. From the players he has brought in so far it looks like he spreads his scouting net far and wide. Interesting to see who he brings in come June and July.

Despite having a very good season back I think there is a lot of rebuilding to do in out squad.

We can count ourselves very fortunate tha Greg Stewarts has been banging in the goals this year or we would be in trouble.

For me if possible we should be getting rid of Dyer, The Bulgarian, davo, ferry, roberts, Thomson, Clarkson and mcbride.

We obviously need a new left back and a commanding centre half in the same mould as Fojut at the Dabs. We are crying out for some width and pace so a couple of wingers are also a must and potentially a big target man who can hold it up and bring others into the game.

Depends who we move out. Should be aiming for a mix of players established at this level and guys who are down the leagues and wanting a shot at full time football.

Pretending to be a manager, I'd look at:

Daniel Devine (Inverness) - 22 year old centre back who's second string at Inverness but looks pretty good whenever he plays.

Abdul Osman (Partick Thistle) - 27 year old midfielder who kicks people and is dominant in the middle.

Kallum Higginbothan (Partick Thistle) - 25 year old attacker who is one of Thistle's only threats. If he plays well, Thistle play well.

Then out of the league:

Jackson Longridge (Stranraer) - 19 year old left back who has had a terrific season at Stranraer after being released by Ayr.

Scott Rumsby (Stranraer) - 20 year old centre back who's been almost ever present for the last year. Used to play for Rangers, Hamilton, Aberdeen and United so is pretty highly regarded.

Alan Forrest (Ayr United) - 18 year old attacker who's scored some good goals this season and has been a constant threat for Ayr.

That's assuming that Durnan and Holt from Queen of the South aren't available. Need to bring in a number 9 as well and I'm not sure how we'll go about that. Imagine we'll be using trialists from abroad and all that again so might be guys we've never heard of who show up. Quite a few guys down the leagues.

We shouldn't be looking far. We should be promoting from the development squad at every opportunity. Craig, Cammy, Carriero and young Black should all be given regular starts. They play in positions which we need to strengthen and we need a highly motivated squad of young players who would give everything they've got. I would rather see us thumped for trying than for standing back, watching, like today!

A tall centre back and left back are a must. Also left and right attacking wing backs with pace, Harris is not the answer. I think a proper defence coach would be great, but only if he could loose a body from this

years backroom team.

Priority has to be fixing our defensive frailties IMO..

Whether that's done by coahing the players that we have into a better unit or bringing in new players, it needs to happen.

Players that I feel we need to be looking to offload are:

McBride

Davidson

Ferry

Dyer

Konrad

Gadzilla

Thomson

Clarkson

Tankulic

Tbh.. I think we can mould a competitive midfield from what we have already (maybe add another if Thomson goes)

We should be prioritising building a new defence and then a new forward line

Tank was one of our best player I think today.

I agree but don't think he's of the standard to take the team forward mate.. He can't get turned to face goal and doesn't score goals
