Here is a list of Rangers players who are supposedly out of contract at the end of the season. Is there that could do a job for us next season?

Lee McCulloch

Kenny Miller

Kris Boyd

Ian Black

John Daly

Bilel Mohsni

Stevie Smith

Kyle Hutton

Richard Foster

Steve SImonsen

Lee Robinson

Sebastian Faure

Of that lot I would probably take:

Kris Boyd - Similiar to Clarkson that he doesn't do much when he isn't scoring but has a much more proven record than him for scoring. Most SPL teams would probably like him in their squad.

Ian Black - Decent player who is hard in the tackle. Would probably give more than Thomson and Ferry have this season.

Stevie Smith - Left back is a position we definitely need to strengthen so could be a good signing but injury prone so would be a classic Dundee gamble signing.

Steve Simonsen - Wouldn't mind having him back dependent on his wage demands. Scott Bain appears to be prone to the odd injury so it will be important to have a decent back-up keeper and can't see Letheren sticking around.

Can't see Rangers keeping any of them on or being offered a big money contract anywhere else so they could be realistic signings.

Lee McCulloch - Very past it

Kenny Miller - Past it and pricey

Kris Boyd - Trial (he looks very very poor right now) and wage demands. Very unlikely that he'll bother with proving himself.

Ian Black - Trial and wage demands

John Daly - sh**e

Bilel Mohsni - sh**e

Stevie Smith - Very sh**e

Kyle Hutton - Trial and wage demands

Richard Foster - Position is filled

Steve Simonsen - Far too pricey for No 2 'keeper and he's not been good at all this season. Won't be value for money.

Lee Robinson - Trial and wage depands

Sebastian Faure - Trial and wage demands

I'd take Hutton on trial, reckon he'd be pretty easy to sway. Used to be up in Dundee quite a lot. Stevie Smith, I'd sign no problem at all. The rest? Not one.

Everybody has their own opinions on players mate but Harry knows his stuff when it comes to SPFL players & he reckons Smith is super Sh !tey.

But the OP didnae just ask Harry did he. That is only his opinion and we are entitled to disagree aren't we

Possibly Smith, only one that would be even as good as we currently have - but that could be because we don't actually have a left back.

The rest? I agree with Harry but don't think Boyd or Black would even deserve a trial - first one past it the other is a petulant wanna be hard man with a pound of spuds on each shoulder.

Could Kris Boyd really be done at 31? It seems to be something of recurring theme with Scottish strikers being finished at a fairly young age. Craig Beattie, Derek Riordan, Garry O'Connor, James McFadden spring to mind.

It wasn't all that long ago that strikers were performing at a high level up to 35 and sometimes beyond. Tommy Coyne, Craig Brewster and Owen Coyle went on for a good bit. Their experience seemed to compensate for their lack of pace.

Not sure if it's down to lifestyle or whatever but it seems strange. You'd think players would be playing better for longer rather than less what with modern science and knowledge of the best diet to follow.

Are centre halves a bit more mobile / a bit fitter than the old days maybe?

Never thought of that. You might be on to something there. I don't suppose there's any way of knowing if that's true, other than asking players.
