Please read the following carefully, as this could affect your account at The Dark Blues Forum.

The Dark Blues should be a place where everyone should be able to visit and discuss football and non-football related Topics. However, this has not been the case recently due to one reason or another.

I have noticed that we have some members who continually berate others over and over because of their opinions. I considering this nothing more than Trolling and I aim to put a stop to it. We will close accounts of members we deem as Trolls.

As from today, our moderators will endeavour to remove comments (topics/posts), warn members or ban members who persistently or blatantly do not follow our Community Guidelines.

We will especially NOT allow or permit the following on the forum:

  • Personal Disagreements or Attacks
  • Insults or Insulting Behaviour
  • Member Harassment
  • Trolling or Baiting
  • Back Seat Moderation

We will also remove comments where members:

  • attack others for not agreeing to posts, comments or taking a side of an argument, regardless of which side of the coin that argument might be on,
  • tell other members to put them on ignore,
  • tell other members they have no right to post regardless of the reason,
  • post memes or gifs with the sole purpose of trolling or baiting another member.
  • Or the post is way off the original intended Topic.

Moderator Actions

Our Moderators will take action 'on a per' basis. The following could happen if our Community Guidelines are broken:

  • Topic Ban: A Topic ban means you will still be able to view and post on the forum, but not that Topic. Topic Bans are non-negotiable and will be permanent.
  • Comment Removed: If we have to delete a comment from the forum, you will be sent a Private Message stating why. If you disagree with this, use the instructions within the Private Message. We WILL delete any post on the forum which discusses moderator actions taken.
  • A Warning or Warnings: A warning will be given to those members who continually break our community guidelines.
  • A Temporary or Permanent Ban.

Safe environment for All Members

To help keep the Dark Blues safe for all members, we suggest the following:

  • Use the Report button if a comment or poster breaks our community guidelines and let our moderation team deal with the issue.
  • Use the Ignore features fro members who you do not want to have anything to do with, such as read their comments etc.

For more information on the matter, please read the following topics:

Our Community Guidelines

For a definitive guide on our forum rules, please read our Community Guideline

Dear John

thank you for the information. I assume that I received this reminder because I made a post where someone had expressed very strongly and in intemperate language his opinion about Bobby Mann, calling him an alky taxi driver. My response was "Stop sitting on the fence " which I thought was a funny rejoinder. It got a smiley face and I'm surprised that my post had to be withdrawn. My reason for replying is to ask if I had put a smiley emoji, or some other appropriate emoji that made it clear that I was making a joke, would my post have avoided censure?

Just want to know.

Some of the funniest posts are one liners and it would be a pity, in my view, if the banter that they provide was removed from the forum. I think the forum has been a force for calm within the DFC fanbase. Posters seem to me to have been able to express their concerns and put forward their views with very little personal abuse.

Keep up the good work.

I have honestly no idea why I have been giving a warning for trolling this morning. I had a civil discussion with Mr Sensible about NM future. I can only assume it was because I disagreed with " the dark blues " that NM won't  be sacked if we win on Saturday.

Apologies for my post in the positive thread. I understand why it was removed.

It was light hearted attempt to get a few laughs (King Arthur comment) only.

Well that’s not trolling as far as I can see, message John through the member support section at the bottom of the page.

HI John,

Thank you for your information.

I have previously had problems with a least one poster disputing my posts and not accepting my opinions. I even told this person that the point of a forum was that posters gave their own points of view. However my pleas ‘fell on stony ground’.

Hello BC ... I'm quite sure John will get back to you  with a clear reason why your post was removed.

And so the following may NOT be relative to you. But it may be & as such offer you some reassurance.

A couple of times in the past, I had what I thought  were "harmless funny posts" removed. When I was

given the reason for this action, it all became clearer...Once the "Offending" post was initially removed,

other responses became redundant & confusing ... And there was no alternative, but to remove all/any

posts associated to the original one...(Eh might have further confused everyone. But eh ken whit eh'm

talkin' aboot) I totally agree about the "funny one-liners" as a funny rejoinder/response:chaplin:

Just to let you know that no one has been giving a warning etc. This is a notice to let everyone know that I will no longer tolerate some of the behaviour which I have noticed these last few days, and also some changes to our moderation rules.

I have no issues with one line funny posts, as these are what make the forum for myself and others. :)

I also want to clarify something, I have had a lot of Emails and Private Messages from members who don't want to participate on the forum, mainly due to the toxicity which has found itself here recently. I cannot have that happening.

I have also had some criticism aimed at myself which I will take on board.

IMHO, the serious tone of the board and "toxicity" (I personally don't think it's as bad as that) is just a sign of how the team is doing this season after a couple of tough seasons.

A winning or doing well team and everyone is happy and there is less debate over the never ending theme in this forum of positive posters v negative posters.

People (myself included) type out posts in the heat of the moment as we are all passionate about the football club we love.

I personally think a few posters on both sides get bogged down in the positive v negative views debates and there's a fair bit of rivalry between the two camps.

People just need to bear in mind that

1 - It's only a football forum.

2 - We all want the same thing. A doing well DFC.

Hi John .. I'm no wanting to get involved in this issue, as rightly (imo) it is best left to others like yourself & more informed staff.

But for my own peace of mind ... Are the comments I made in post 5 wrong? (I don't want to mislead others, as well as myself)

Yeah, this is something which could be explained a bit better.

Sometimes when we remove a post, we may have to remove the 'posts' which quote the 'original' post. If in doubt, just read the PM which was sent, as it explains our decision.

I don't envy any of the moderators their job. I'd encourage those who feel that they don't want to participate on the forum to return and just post what you think. You can't win an argument but you can say what you think and hope that others will at the very least be given reasons to question their own opinions.

Even in this worst run of results and very worrying time for our club there are voices who urge the support to turn up at games and support our team. Those who have been strongest in their condemnation of the state of affairs at the club have all stated that they want the club to win a victory at Hamilton. Their issue is that this will not happen with NM in charge. Not one person who holds these views wants to see the Dee's lose to increase the pressure on the club to take action.

Dunno mate - it read to me as being 'aimed' at every member

I thought it was a message to everyone to adhere to the guidelines but a couple I read were under the impression it was to certain posters and they were explaining why they thought it had been sent to them.

Exactly. I had a post deleted and a comment that I should read the instructions before I went on to post again. I took it as a direct request to me and I was surprised when I posted my expalantion that it was in a public area of the site. I thought I was replying directly to TDB. I would not have got involved with this topic because I think the moderators have a mission impossible.

i do think it's very easy to post a comment that you think is funny, particularly if it is based on irony or being shockingly outrageous. A simple emoji should get over that difficulty.

I don’t understand this Islay, because you come across as very tolerant, accepting of different opinions to your yourself, and generally empathetic...
