Dundee boss Paul Hartley has expressed his concern about his side’s lack of matches next month with the possibility that his players could be idle for over three weeks.

The Dark Blues travel to Motherwell on Saturday before making the long trip to Ross County on February 28. After that, their next scheduled game isn’t until March 23 against Aberdeen.

Hartley is worried about the effect such a long lay-off will have on his side’s ambitions to finish in the top six this season and he is already looking into the possibility of arranging a game down south.

The manager said: “We’ve got two tough games coming up and then we have a long break. It’s not ideal for us. It’s a bit of a worry, to be honest. It could be three and a half weeks for us before we play a game depending on Celtic and how they get on in the Europa League.

“Ross County would be our last game on February 28. Then our next match wouldn’t be until March the 23rd. In between, there’s the Scottish Cup and we’re supposed to play Celtic in the midweek leading up to the League Cup Final. However, we could potentially be idle for three and a half weeks so we’re looking at what we might do.

“We want to keep our momentum going because results recently in the league have been pretty good. To have a lay-off of three and a half weeks is a bit long. We just need to wait and see what happens.

“We’ve sat down and looked at what we might be able to do and where we could go. It might be down south for a game or a few training days away. If you look at it right now, we’ve got one game in March as things stand.â€
