Dundee’S Stephen Mcginn Focusing On Top Six Slot

Dundee’s win over rock bottom Motherwell moved them closer to the sides above them in the Premiership, but midfielder Stephen McGinn insists no-one at Dens Park is looking beyond sixth spot.

A thoroughly professional performance at Fir Park extended the Dark Blues’ unbeaten run in the league to eight games and enhanced their chances of securing a place in the top half post-split. But McGinn is very much taking things one game at a time, although past experience tells him that his side are certainly in pole position to achieve their goal.

“The first thing I said when I came was that I played with a St Mirren team that came into the SPL from winning the First Division,†he explained. “Not to be disrespectful to that, but the team the manager has at his disposal now compared to that team then means it’s no surprise why we’re challenging for the top six. I’m hoping to come in and add to that.

“We’re on a roll now and the onus is on us to go to Ross County next week. We’re taking it one game at a time. The aim right now is to get into the top six and once we’re in and we know we’re in for those final five games then we’ll take it from there. But we’re under no illusions how tough it’s going to be.

“St Johnstone won again and Kilmarnock got a good draw so we know it’s going to be tough. It’s going to be tight so we need to keep winning.â€

McGinn is enjoying life at Dens Park since his move north from Sheffield United last month, and he hopes to continue making a sizeable contribution to the Dark Blues’ top six push.

“It was easy to settle in here,†he added. “It’s a great dressing room and the manager has been good with me. Having played in Scotland before you know all the boys. I’ve played against a lot of them and I put pressure on myself to justify the manager bringing me in.â€
