How many players will end up taking the field for us this season? So far I reckon we have put at least 28 players on the park with some of the new signings to play yet. No doubt someone better informed can tell the proper figure so far. I wonder if this will be a record for us even compared to some of the 'difficult' seasons of the past 30 years or so. I know things were different in the past especially before subs were allowed in the mid 60s but it still bears thinking again on the fact that when we won the league we only used 15 players the whole season with the 4 players outwith the famous 11 only playing 18 games between them the whole season due almost wholly to injuries. Famous line ups from other teams trip off the lips easily because similarly they only featured a set 11 with a few add on players during a season, even the DABs had a similar small squad when they won in the early 80s (sorry for mentioning that). We will never go back to anything like those small squads especially with 7 subs onb the bench and 3 used almost every game and wholesale player loans moving around all over the place but I hope that if we survive this season then we can seek the longed for stability. I would love (again) to support a Dundee side where I and more importantly the Manager knew the best 11 and this team with a number of trusty substitutes played at least regularly if not all the time barring injuries and severe loss of form. The supporters would relate much better to 'our' players rather than those in the current 'revolving' door era where quite frankly I have to consult team sheets/match programme to identify some on the park something I never had to do with the League winning side (obviously) but also through the period up until the Bonetti teams of foreign imports some very memorable and others not so!  I feel sort of detached from short term loanees and fringe players in massive squads and haven't felt as close to a team since the Deefiant season when we had to field the same players with a few necessary add ons e.g a certain Mr McCann (to go off on a tangent I for one can forgive him, for the lack of managerial skills and the mess he left us with, due to his skill as a player, his coming to our aid in the Deefiant season and that chip more than balancing out his failures).

Whether JM is the man to build this sort of team I don't know because he has history with Ross County of wholesale rebuilding of teams regularly but I am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt starting from now with his own team whoever he plays from the new influx. Maybe I'll go down to the Stand Enclosure and listen to Sam McFadzean's commentary to the blind supporters so I'll know who is on the ball from now on.

The game's played at a much more frantic pace nowadays and probably takes its toll on the body and that's why we need bigger squads. I've watched games from 30/40yrs ago and it's almost like watching a different sport it's so slow compared to now.

No idea how many players we've used so far but I'd say it's probably more than 28.

Slower but more physical contact. Sunday Post Crime count would have been accused of a typo if there wasn't a total of 30 plus fouls in a match, frequently 20 plus for an individual side and the refs were more lenient imo.

Kicking someone at walking pace will still hurt but likely do less damage than kicking someone who's running at full pelt. I'm not surprised that today's players pick up more injuries.

Back then - Dundee, 20 fouls, 1 booking.

Now - Dundee, 8 fouls, 3 bookings,1 ordering off

Cheers, knew I'd missed someone.

How long do you think it'll be before the list ends up in the Tully?.

#copy&pastejob

Match report and reaction on Monday, so I'd say Tuesday's edition.

It'll be 37 at least by the end of today with the possibility of O'Sullivan coming on and making it 38. I'm guessing only Davies to go now so it'll likely be 39 by the end of the season, barring any major injuries and maybe someone like Rice coming in for Ralph or a free agent being needed.
